We can say lots of things. However, the motor you are giving a link to a is a V-8 and not something you would do on a normal basis. I am sure it might be possible to fit this in your car, but a lot of fabrication is going to be required and you are probably going to end up with a non street legal race car. Do you know of the actual dimensions of this engine? If you did you would have a better idea how easy it would be to fit in. Also consider all the custom fabrication required to actually fit a rwd tranny. It is not just a drop in idea.

and it'd be easier on a Neon because of the exhaust comming out of the rear of the motor which caused them to practically design in a place to put a RWD tranny, while i'm pretty sure the eclipes' firewall is pretty flat without any room for a bellhousing.
EDIT: MURIX.. it's not a link to a V8, it's a link to a I4 based V8 (chopping one set of cylinders off of the old 5.2L-5.8L truck engines). which who would want to use that in place of the 420a anyway? it's a PUSHROD 8V motor! based on a V8 that was designed like 30 years ago. I think i'd take a DOHC 16V job over that any day, who gives a shit if you can put a hemi head on it and it's all aluminum. It's VE rating would be way lower then the 420a (with comparable intakes and exhaust) now if you could take your 420a and drop on that nice quad TB (or dual side draught carbs?) and beautiful header onto a 420a, you'd have a BEAST.

30683, Well, look at that. Posted by MuRiX, Aug-21-02 12:58 AM
Hrmm.
Did not notice that was converted! Thanks for pointing it out to me. I guess I should read better. Interesting what they did.
If I wanted to really build a rwd 420A, I would look into the tranny in the 2.4l base model Jeep Liberty. That might be worth checking out. Still lots of custom fabrication.
