rebuild ur tranny with performance everything, and then get a tranny cooler. No more worries than the typical 5 speed.

I dont have any regrets what so ever. yea your not gonna get the performance the 5-speed would but still, your car is turboed. Alot of respect come with that alone. And besides, now im not the slowest car on the street. Alot of people told me not to because I have an AT and I did it anyway and I can out run those who were running their mouths. Its all up to you man, its your car, don't take crap from other people.

I'm not turbo quite yet, but I'm not going to regret it. My car needed all the help it could get.

slap a metal snail under the hood and worry about problems when they happen. I'll be up front with u. I have ragged the fuck out of my auto. Doing things people said would break it. I have done these things for months. The auto tranny is a strong auto. It will handle quite a bit of strain. Turbo will make your car fast regardless of turbo or 5 speed. And u can be faster than turbo 5 speeds. How? Build yours up to more power than the guy with the 5 speed. Just satisfy yourself. If you want 5 speed, I'd suggest trading the car for a 5 speed gst or gsx. So u save money off a turbo kit and 5 speed swap. But, if u can live with auto, by all means, boost your car.

I am going to be turbo in a week or so and I know I will not regret it. Do you know why???? One mod....

FINAL DRIVE GEAR MOD

Prior to this, guys, we only had the option to do tranny mods which are expensive. But now we have this gear mod and since it takes .6 seconds off the 1/4, I don't think there is much difference in having a manual vs. auto.

For drag purposes, I think the final gear mod would put us right there with them.... maybe a small amount slower, just a little. Think about this.... the majority of people are not that great at driving when it comes to racing. That little bit of inexperience/lack of skill could be the reason why your auto wins. It NEVER, EVER, EVER misses a shift!!!

Adn even if you are racing a veteran drag racer, all you gotta do is get the $28 transGo kit and get it installed for (I would guess) about $150. Then you'll be burning MT's.

The only place you may lose is in AutoX becuase the MTers get to pick the gear and it's not based on throttle position.

So guys.... there is no reason to not have an auto. For a total of about $280 you can have a tranny that shifts faster than a MT and will never miss an shift.

The MT guys soon NEED TO GET A NEW CLUTCH ***Especially if you're going turbo***. The ACT clutches themselves cost like $400 and installation is another $300. $700 total at least for just the clutch which will still not allow you to humanly shift as fast as your $280 modded tranny.

For one I am proud to be Auto. I'll be faster than a MT and I can eat while I drive!!!:)

Hey 9D9 MITSU RS

I can see what you mean buy selling your car for the MT if you want one, but I have to disagree with you when you say it is the best idea to sell the Auto NT for a MT turbo. If you buy the turbo MT in the long run the insurance for the turbo(2x that of an NT) would turn out more expensive than a tranny swap.

My suggestion:

Only trade in your auto NT for a gsx if you are dead set on AWD since the gsx is the only dsm w/AWD and you're prepared for the HIGH insurance.

If you are considering a gst then forget it becasue it's the same as a gs but with a turbo (which you can do to your gs NT) and HIGHER insurance. If you absolutly must have the 5 speed then sell the NT auto and buy a NT 5speed. I don't know if that would be cheaper than a tranny swap (I dont have time to weigh out carefully) but I think it is. Then turbo.

Dont worry about swapping anything. There are many strong points to a automatic.

1. high RPM stall conveter will let you build boost off the line. MT's can hold an RPM at launch but can't build any boost.

2. No missed shifts!!!

3. You don't lose boost in between shifts like a MT(i.e. the turbo never spools down)

4. A shift kit helps fast shifts shift faster.

There are tons of Grand National in my area. They are all turbo and auto and fast as shit. Look at some of the Fast ass Supra's....automatics. Hope this helps.

What is this final drive mod I keep hearing about? Can anyone clue me in? If it only affects fourth gear on the auto, then it shouldn't affect quarter mile times, since third gear goes up to 120 mph.

the final drive mod changes the gear ratio on the final drive gear, NOT 4th gear. it affects the 'total' ratios on every gear in the transmission.

Where can I get this Final drive mode??? how difficult is to install it ??? . One more can anybody tell me what is the bottom end howell kit ??? WOuld I need it if I turbo my AT?? Sorrry for asking so many questions but the search option would not give me any good info . :+

I planned on turboing my old Eclipse, which was an automatic. But I ended up selling it and getting a 5-Speed, and turboing it (the car I have now). That facts that the transmission could go, it is a full second slower, and it isn't as fun to drive -- drove me to sell it for a 99 5-Speed. Not to mention less mileage, sunroof, and every option possible..5-Speed is just the way to go with performance tuning. I don't want to get into the "Auto vs. 5-Speed" deal, Im fully aware of what a race prepped auto tranny can do...Just my .02 (why isn't tehre a 'cents' key on the keyboard..)

DSMeclipseGS,
DON"T EAT WHILE YOU DRIVE... I made that mistake last summer, while trying to eat chinese boneless spare ribs with my hands in rush hour traffic. Bad idea. Yes it is amazingly stupid so you don't have to tell me about it. If it weren't for insurance I would've paid $6k for repairs! And i was only going like 10 mph. So note to all, I learned the hard way. Don't eat while you drive. As amazingly smart I am, I can be as equally amazingly dumb.

Automatic Transmission Cooler. Check Summit -- www.summitracing.com, and then also a gauge to monitor your tranny temps. Also check summit, or you can buy mine for $35....was gonna sue it on my old car but sold it for a 5-Speed.

remember when I posted my car was for sale? I was gonna get a 99 GSX 5 speed. Silver again. BUT, lame people trying to offer me nothing for my car. Or acting like they were rich or some shit. Got tired and said, I'll keep messing with it. Insurance woulda been 914.xx a year! That's not much.

where can i get the shift kit, and transgo? i would like to get that stuff so that i can supe up my tranny for when i put the turbo in. i've got a few more parts for my car, then the engine get pulled so i might as well work on the tranny. any info on the whereabouts would be great

I had an auto that I sprayed on, and ran 14 second quarter mile ets. I hated that car though, the auto is a freaking bitch without any sort of forced induction, and it feels like it takes forever to accelerate. I really considered turboing my old car, but I said, na, I'll get a 5-Speed, 4G63....

And dump tons of money into it.

Our Drag Neon sports an auto trans, and has run in the 9.30's at 151 MPH...

A properly equipped auto trans is a good way to go, it's just more expensive to do than just slapping a clutch in the manual equipped car. But there are advantages to the auto as mentioned above. It may simply come down to personal preference...

but whatever you do, Boost It!
