I got my Transgo shift kit today and have been looking over the instructions. Looks like a PITA to "install". I didn't realize I had to drill into my valve body. If you have one of these:

Did you install it yourself?
How long did it take you?
Anything to watch out for?
Special tools?

OR

Did a shop install it?
What did you pay?

Hey Corbin, I know this is outta the question, but where did you get that kit?? Part numbers, direct link, etc.......thanks man. Lemme know how the install and performance worked for you.

Hey Corbin- If I were you, I'd post a message over at asog.net. A few of the guys over there have done it. I think only a few 2gnts have it.

The Trans-go kit isn't that hard to install. It's kind of weird trying to install it laying on your back though. I had my tranny shop install it for me. They charged me $125.00 to do it. Then they updated all the programming in the tranny computer. It's kind of nice because like every six months the tranny relearns what you've done and acts up. There's a circuit in there that sences to much torque and limits the fuel to the engine. I just take it back to them and they reprogram it for free. So you may think the $125.00 is too much but, it's nice to have it reprogrammed for free when you need it done.
Oh yeah I almost forgot I did the final gear mod swap also. If you plan on doing these you better get a tranny cooler!

What kind of tranny cooler would you recommend? I plan on doing the final drive mod and the shift kit, so I'll be in the market for one too.

Also, did the shift kit really make a difference? I'm surprised that a $28 product is suppose to help our transmission perform better.

You have to get the TCU reprogrammed every few months? Screw that! I'm not going through the trouble of installing it if its going to throw codes periodically. What codes does it throw? You've really got me wondering...

What cars have the F4AC1?

Where did you order your drive gears from?

Corbin, I don't know much about the trans-go kit off hand, but if you post over on asog, quite a few of the members have done this mod. There are a few things that you wont be able to install in the kit, unless you rebuild your tranny completely from what I understand. Sean(highlander) had one installed when he got his trans rebuilt. He said he definately noticed the difference in shifting.

You don't need any specisl tools to install the gears. I got mine from my buddy who works for Dodge. My cost was $85.00. Normal price is like $125.00. you'll need a 21mm socket though and three quarts of tranny fluid. I did mine in about an hour. That was taking off the tire and gear cover and installing the gears. I didn't rebuild the tranny either. I have 108,000 miles on my tranny. My tranny cooler I got from Auot zone. I run my fluid through the stock cooler (in the bottom of the radiator) and then through the secondary cooler and back into the tranny. I don't get and tranny codes. It's just when I'm running the nitrous is when I'll notice the tranny problems. Our tranny computers will sence too much torque and try to limit the fuel. Reprogramming only takes the tranny shop abuot ten minutes to complete. It's the old saying If you wnat to play you'll have to pay. And for me time is cheaper than money!

OK...that sounds better. So the fuel cut is torque related, not caused by the shift kit? There isn't a torque sensor, so maybe it is noticing excess slip in the TC. I know it compares input to output speed to figure TC slippage. Maybe thats it. I don't have issues now, so I guess I'm good. I'll post on ASOG and see if I can get some specific details. I just want to know what I'm getting into before installing this.

Well? Did you install it? Is it worth it?

I had some other projects on the car, so I've put it off. I now plan to swap the transfer gears before I put the shift kit in. I'll probably put the gears in this week.

Transfer gears? Is that what the final gears? (AKA final gear mod?)

Let me know how your turbo responds to your trans mods
