30339, Denso Iridium spark plug gapping.. need help Posted by rutiglie, Aug-16-02 10:21 AM
I just purchased a set of Denso Iridium plugs off eBay and am wondering what to gap them to. I've read .05 a lot on this site. The plugs included a chart and it says .044 for Stock-Mild Mods and it says N/A for Mild-Heavy-Extreme Mods. What should I gap them to? HELP!

it is my understanding, and correct me if i am wrong, but i thought it was bad to "play" with the gaps on iridium plugs because of the thin electrode, i assumed they came pregapped, although it is good to check them.

I think they come pregapped as well. I read from Denso that you should gap them by tapping them on a hard surface or pulling them gently but not the usual method. Should i keep them pregapped?

You just use pliers and pull the outer electrode away from the center electrode and check it with a spark plug gap gauge (or use the gapper tool that pulls the outer electrode up). Repeat until you get the desired gap. To decrease the gap just bang the damn thing on a hard surface and use the gauge to desired results. Naturally the conventional method of turning the gauge inside the gap will only result in a scratched up gap tool or broken plug.

Well I only got them after I got a turbo and already had high compression before that but I gapped them to .040".
