You must be doing it wrong. Go to autozone and have them scan it for you.

Re-do your key dance to read the code again. There are 2 numbers that refer to a cel code. It will flash a certain # of times, then pause, then flash another certain # of times. For example, if it flashes 3 times, then pauses, then flashes 3 times, its a code 33. If it flahses 2 times, then pauses, then flashed 4 times, its a code 24. Get it? There is no such thing as a code 3, from what i know anyway.

Looks like codes 12, 31, 55

12 is battery disconected within 50 or so key starts.
31 is EVAP solenoid circuit- the sol itself is bad, clogged purge line, vacum hose problems
55 is telling you that there are no more codes

Ok, I will try and give as much info as i can to where everything is at. At the throttle body, on the very top of it, right above the air inlet, there is a vacum line, and it is a right angle one, that connects to a hard plastic vac line. Check there for leaks, or broken/slpit vac line. Follow that hard line along the firewall, and up the passenger side of the engine bay. It will pass right in front of the Timing Belt cover, on the frame rail. Closer to the firewall along that line, there is like a 1 foot section of vac line, connecting the hard lines, so check that. If you keep following the hard line, it will end up by the front passenger side fenderwell. The EVAP solenoid is under the fenderwell there. If you get under the car, look up there by the fender, and you will see it, there are vac lines hooked up to it, and a wireing connector. The solenoid itself can be bad, you might want to start by replacing that, that is simple. Now follow the other line back out of it, and you will see that it follows the other hard line by the frame rail, then by the firewall, it goes down, and heads under the car, back to the gas tank. Follow it to the gas tank, and just check all the lines, connections, and look for anything broken or worn, ect..This is a good start to see whats wrong and giving you the code. If the part is cheap, i would start by replacing the EVAP solenoid under the fender..

Exactly what ^^^ said. Mine was fixed by replacing a cracked vacum line.

I had that same code last week....Follow what they said... Look for loose vaccuum lines near the timing belt and on top of the throttle body... The idiots at the dealership forgot to reinstall mine when they did a timing belt change.....I found out that the parts dont wear out often at all.. Definitly look for a vacuum leak before u do anything else or spend any money

You know what I've always been thinking - Why don't we post all the possible codes on this site somewhere? I see code questions all the time, and I know when I go turbo I'm probably going to be asking the same questions. We need to have a little chart on 2gnt already. Hey xtreme rs, where do you get your info from, b/c maybe I can compile a list of codes and then give it to Dino to put it in a locked help section

Well that was easy. I remember looking for that on 2gnt a very long time ago, and never found it. Yeah I never go to the main page anymore.
