30196, Hey Jason quick question on map sensor
Posted by mitsudsr, Aug-14-02 12:54 PM
First off thanks for the great help, this is exactly what I was looking for. One question, all this is happening under no boost. I just got the car back from the rebuild and have not boosted yet. That is why I am leaning more towards the map sensor. Which method do I use the first or the second I dont understand the difference. I can get a volt meter from work tomarrow and will check it out. Thanks again,
Patrick

If you're leaning problems are occurring off boost, then it's most liekly your MAP sensor by itself. However, I recommend taking off the HRC FCD and driving around without boosting, and see if things improve.

Well today at work I used a multimeter to test the map sensor. With the key in the ON possition and car NOT running I got 4.03 volts the first time. Then I tried with the car running and got 1.6 volts. Then I tried again with the key in the ON possition and not running and got 4.04 volts. So does it sound like I did it right? Was that the right way to do it? Do you think this means it is the map sensor? Please get back with me so I know wether or not I should buy that map sensor tomarrow or not.
Thanks,
Patrick

I can't remember exactly my MAP sensor readings with car merely on or at idle, but since there is the amount of range you're speaking of, I would guess that it is fine.

I'm still betting that those old codes in regard to MAP voltage is in relation to your HRC FCD or an SAFC. I'd clear those codes and see if they repeat.

Also, double check your MAP sensor wiring.

Take off the FCD and then test it out. I am sure your voltage will go back to normal after you take off that FCD. Seems liek all the FCD'ers are messed up.

I am stil waiting for my missing link to get here but the good thing is that I am getting ZERO fuel cut at 15 psi with my FCD off. I was gettign a littel fuel cut at 8 psi with stock injectors but now its fine.

Ok guys tonight I will take off my FCD and try it out. I will right back with another update. Hope it works
Thanks again guys,

Voltage with the key on, and not running should be around 4.5 volts, no less really. I too was getting around 4.01 volts with the FCD on there, and i was running way to lean at WOT. Even with no boost, you will still run lean. Why? When at WOT, the voltage at the map should be around 4.5 volts. This tells the ecu to give more fuel from the injectors. Now if at wot, it was only at 4.01 volts, the ecu doesnt know that there is more air in there that what it thinks is in there. The map gives out a certain voltage for how much air is coming into the motor, and relays that info to the ecu, then to the injectors. This is why you are running lean, as the ecu thinks there is less air in the motor than there really is. YOu have more air in there, but less fuel to go with that air, hence you run lean. Get the Missing Link :thumbsup

First off I have to say that I clipped the wires on the FCD and reset my codes and sure enough they went away. So then I took it for a quick test drive and it is working very well. You guys really know your shit and I cant explain how much I appreciate all the help you have given me. I would have been lost and spending a lot of money with out you. I still have a lean CEL but would this come from not having my cat on the car? There is nothing there it just dumps at the flex pipe. Does the second O2 sensor record this and give me the CEL? And finally How much and were do you get the missing links from? Are they universal or are they spacific to every car?
Thanks a lot guys,
Patrick

alright guys.....here is another one for you. i have a 95 and no FCD. mine map was reading 4.0XX. so i figured it was bad. i went out and bought a new one and this on reads 3.9XX. its actualy lower than the old one. so what could be my problem?

should it matter that i have corbins safc boost mod?

help guys
