3008, Whats this ma-jigger thing I Just unhooked? Posted by jltucson, Jun-08-01 10:48 AM
Hi.I don't think this applies to all cars because most people do not know what I am talking about. But on my '95 NT Talon, there is a pipe thingy going into the air box AFTER the filter. I installed intake on my car, which meant getting rid of the old airbox. Now this tube that went into the airbox,( i felt it, it blew hot air into it then it would go back to the throttle body through the intake) anyways now It hangs off in nowwhere. Like I said aleady, the thing blows very little, but blows hot used air out, and it gets resent to the throttle body. What is this thing?

Crankcase breather. Get a breather filter for it. I actually left mine hanging in there and never got any ill effects.... I got a filter for it now, though.

if it is a pipe about 3/4 inch inner diameter and it went into the airbox just below the main intake pipe it is part of you pulsed secondary air injection solenoid. it injects air into your exhaust past your #1 O2 sensor to burn off the remaining fuel vapors in the exhaust. I got a recall notice regarding this system and I brought it to the dealer and they capped it and took out the whole system. Previous to this i just put a breather on the pipe hanging out freely, but call your dealer they should remove it. i'm in california, and i dunno if it has to do with the emission standards here, but they removed it completely from my car and now i don't gotta worry about it! um that's about it. Hope i helped!

No.. it's just the tube your stock airbox pulled air through. You can leave it alone, or cover it, or pull all that crap apart and remove it entirely, which is something i've been thinking about doing...

Okay. I'll explain:
The hose first refered to in this post is from the crankcase beather. The line starts at the valve cover and runs into the intake pipe.
The thing you are refering to is just a plastic pipe that the stock airbox pulls air through. With an aftermarket intake, it does nothing.
Better?

Ok thank you i now understand, but i have one last question: the crankcase breather runs from my valve cover to my new intake, i have a breatherfilter should i put in on to the hose coming from the valave cover or just leave the line how it is, going into the intake? thanks for answering all the questions

I say breather, I don't like oil being pulled back into my intake.

does this pipe go from a ufo looking vacuum actuator to the airbox. It connects to a small 1 inch hole below the main intake pipe hole ON THE AIRBOX right?

Yes, it connects to really small hole ON the airbox, AFTER the filter and under the stock intake.

this is the pulsed secondary air injection system. I'm in california and i recieved a recall notice on the system and they just plain took the whole thing out so i don't have to worry about it. I also put in an aftermarket intake and was wondering what the heck to do with this l shaped pipe that was dangling there i put a pipe in and put a breather filter on the other end. i would recommend that you bring it to the dealer and say that you heard of a recall on the system and have them remove the system it will solve your problem. and it gets rid of some useless crap in your engine bay anyways...cool hope i helped.
