As I am sur emost fo yoru are qurious as to how well the new afx ecu works, I guess I will let you know. I woudl assume it advances timing from what it was previously (I was getting between 15 to 17 degrees advance under boost with my stock ecu..my egt's went down with th eafx ecu, and it felt faster for a little while), then I found out that not knowing what my timign was advanced to was pretty stupid (even 'though I asked beforhand). turns out th etiming with th enew ecu shoudl be about 26 to 27 degrees advanced at WOT (which is a good 10 more degrees than what I had previously, and of course you know what happend after that.....that is if you have read my article on detonation). but honestly, it looks like I just ran lean. either way it goes, I had the ecu in my car for one day, an dmy car melted a piston. I really wich I had the AEM ecu instead fo the shitty accell dfi, but hey, I work with what I have. And to answer other people's questions, NO my ecu is staying where it is right now, in my car. end of story. When the motor gets back from th emachine shop, I will put it all back together, break it in, and tune th ecar in for about 11.9 to 1 aur fuel ratio and keep timing at a conservative miminum (if I can figure out where it is, I will keep timing at around 20 degrees advanced with pump gas and 17 with racing fuel) and I will NEVER run regular pump gas again. I will polut my engine with additives if I can't get higher octane fuel, but this blowign up shit has to stop, even if I make 50 less hp in the process, taking the engine out of my car gets really old really fast. I think you guys should have chosed a better car to try out th eecu for if you were really concerned about fuel trims. everybody on this side of god's greed earth knows what my car has, and I made that blatantly clear when I said specificlly (I don't car about fuel trim......all I want is a little mor etiming and my rev limiter REMOVED). I am kinda upset that th ebox says it is only moved up to 8200. my rev limiter as it sat factory was at 7800. oh well. I hope I have better luck making power with the stealth.

That is fine. I wish i would have had the opportunity to test the ECU on a car that actually uses the ECU's fuel trims so that production could begin, but it's yours and there is nothing i can do about it. i figure calling you to discuss it would be a waste of time at this point. I have to say that i'm disappointed, but i understand where you are coming from and it's you perogative.

Good luck, and best wishes from all of us.

What he's saying is that he had it on the car for one day, and blew it up from tuning it to lean. No fault of the ECU most likely, but a moot point at this time.

What else he is saying is that he can't verify the modified ECU's fuel maps because his fuel maps are controlled with an Accel DFI, and that he doesn't plan on doing any testing with it one way or another to verify if the modified maps are usable, stable, and suitable for mass production.

I offered to do this testing for Armond via email while his car is down, got no reply, and had planned to call him today about it. I have access to two 97 model 420A cars, one lightly bolted, and one turbocharged, as well as access to a dyno to complete the testing. I also have access to a stock 97 ECU the we had planned to offer up as a temporary replacement while we tested the AFX ecu which would take us at most one weekend. It seems that this isn't going to happen, and as much as i wish Armond were acceptable to this offer, it is his ECU to do with as he sees fit. There will be no arguement about it - we'll just have to find another way.

Well, that is a mighty bummer. I was eager to offer my ecu cause my car is down for all eternity sometimes it seems, but I realized I would do you guys no good, as all I want is to remove the pesky rev-limiter, and as well, I am controlled mainly by the dfi.

There are plenty of other guys perfect, like Dino, to do testing, I hope Gary will try again so you guys can get this thing worked out and ready to sell. I know plenty of you want a modded ecu pretty bad, so I see a good revenue possiblilty could come out of it

The thing that gary was trying to figure out was if the ecu WAS programable or not. it obviously is, so I dont' see the problem in them cranking out another one for testing on a non hrc stage 5 equipped car for a fee. I did my end of the bargin by supplying an ecu to "play with". It's up to gary if he really wants to do anotehr one or not. like I said, it's been proven that they can be programmed......and that's all I intended for them to find out on my setup (hince me only asking for a REMOVED rev limiter and more timing). the ball is out of my court.

Why won't you allow someone else to try to slap it on a relatively stock 420a in your area? It couldn't be too hard to merely swap ECU's.

I know a lot of people here are interested in some feedback on how the AFX ecu will benefit their rides. I know, for myself, a timing advanced ECU is not something I want, but other people going the N/A route would be really interested.

I don't mind if somebody in metro atlanta want's to take their car up to one of the local dyno shops and use the ecu (as long as it is returned same day). I WON'T let the thing out of my range 'though. I waited on this and several other miscelaneous parts for my car with absolutely no word for WAY too long, and that is "never" going to happen again...........

Armond, the take I had from all of this was that the entire community wanted to benefit from knowing how this ECU will work. Many others here made a strong push for this ECU to be produced from Howell, to me at least, and it just turned out that you were the one to donate the ecu to Howell to be the guinea pig. We all certainly appreciated the gesture, but with your car down now, it seems everyone is on hold for the results and feedback someone can contribute for using the ECU.

I just hope that you might consider other arrangments to be made in the testing of the only AFX prototype ECU for the 420a.

I jsut made a deal with Dino abotu this thing. the ecu will be on someone's rollers in 2 weeks, whether it b in atlanta or texas. if it is tested on my car, the ecu will make 410 hp ;) I will also ask Joe if he wants to test it out on his stage 2 eclipse. if anybody in Atlanta with a non turbo 2gnt wants to see the power gains on it, you are welcone to hook up with me and we can go up to the dyno see what it does (fee has been covered). My main point is I dont' want to be sitting on my hands for the rest of my life wishing I had my parts like I did for the front lower tie bar money (still saiting), my axles(still waiting), my turbosystem, my motor, my pistons, my crankshaft, my coil-overs, my autometer IAT gauge, my cams, etc, etc, etc. the list goes on and on and on and on............I have a BAD history of getting screwed in regards to parts for this car and I have become quite protective because of it.

Good deal. If Dino gets to test it out, I am sure he will be very fast in getting it done and back to you. He won't do you wrong. I know what you mean though. I have had probs with parts as well, having to contact BBB or driving states away to get things fixed, sucks for sure.

I'm glad something like this was worked out, Armond. :-)

I can certainly understand your reluctance to not have any of your parts close at hand. That's certainly an unfortunate side effect with the internet, and sending out parts or money out to people, merely relying on trust. However, I think Dino's pretty "o-kay." ;-)

Ouch, yeah I'm pretty sure the boposted Neon guys who run the AFX ECU are using a retard on an ignition amp. Same thing with those running really high compression.

I'm glad something was worked out by the end of the thread... I was contemplating a road trip to test out the ECU on my '97, and see power on NA.

yesss! i'm glad the testing continues on this...and Avenger, i'm sorry of what happen to your ride. by the way, when you talked to whoever on programming the ecu, did you also tell him of your mods? did they know you were turbo, 'cause they might have advanced too timing thinking you were NA. well we'll see on the results with this new testing and i sure hope it has a higher rev limiter. and Dino i appreciate you doing this for us, i thought it was going to end right there.
