Help,

I just washed my engine and now my car idles really high.

I didn't notice it until I was at a stop light. The RPM was at 2
(2000rpm)

My car usually Idles at 700rpm (Under the 1 mark)

Now it's at 1 1/2 - 2 (1500 - 2000) rpm.

I figured something just got wet and figured after an 1 hour of
driving it will be fine.

Well this morning when I started it up. Same problem. Should I
disconnect the Battery and see if it resets?

I have a 4G64 2.4L SOHC engine.

I checked everything and nothing is loose or disconnected. What
could it be?

Any Help would be appreciated.

You might try unhooking the battery. Not sure how long it takes the ECU to loose its memory though....

Could it be that my Throttle Posiston Sensor is just wet and every
will return back to normal once it dries - but how long does it takes
to dry?

I just came back from Lunch and it was revving at 2500 rpm at the
light. Sucks because everyone thinks I revving my engine and want to
race.

I'm going to disconnect the battery tonight (All night) to see if
that helps.

Any suggestion????

park it out under the sun with the hood up for a while. Go out and let it run for a few like that too, but sit around close so nobody tries to steal ur shit. This would get any water out.
Also, make sure your gas pedal is up all the way, put ur foot behind it or pull it up and see if it might be stuck down a little.

i would check around your throttle body.. im not too familiar w/the 4g engine bay, but w/the 420a idle problems (high idle) it is usually sumthin to do w/a t/b sensor, or the butterfly is stuck open a lil...

i would yank the intake piping just to check it out..

i would seriously recommend resetting your idle nut... i had a screwy idle til i did that... its on your throttle body.... just screw it all the way out, then screw it all the way in, then two turns out. i idle perfect now at 650-750 rpm... give that a try, and drying out your engine. If both fail, post again.

Question: When I turn the Screw. Which way increase the RPM and decrease the RPM.

Example: Is it:

Clockwise (Screwing the screw inward)= Increase the RPM.

Counter-Clockwise (Screwing the screw outward) = Decreas the RPM.

Or is vice-versa. (This way I can just fine tune it if needed).

Strange that everything was working fine until I washed the engine. (I bet it's just watter but it's taking forever to dry - it's like 100 degrees here in TX).

I am having a similar problem to you and it started happening after I washed my engine. I figured that it would dry out and go back to normal but after a year of trying to figure out what it was, it is still doing it. I hope that you have better luck that I have been having.

Hey man if you have cruise control check that out, one of my friends had that happend and it tunrned out to be something with the cruise control

it doestn really work like that... you just want it out to get the right idle, not to far out to disrupt the channel, not too far in to restrict... just turn it out two turns

Chalk it to up another one who decided to wet the engine down, Guys please, if youre gonna wet the engine wrap it up, oil flows down, use some simple green,fantastik or another one of those high speed degreasers to clean ur engine on top with a sponge, use armorall on the hoses if u wish, use gunk engine cleaner on the lower places that you cant reach then wash a with very low pressure hose-AVOID SPRAYING WATER ON ELECTRONICS AND INTAKE. Well,

It's still revving high. Been 3 days now with 100 degree temperature here in TX. So instead of waiting & praying to have it fixed automatically.

I went ahead and adjusted the littler screw that adjust the idle. There's a nut that holds the idle screw which has to be loosen first.

Once the nut is loose, you can adjust the screw either clockwise or counter-clockwise.

I had the car running and turned the screw counter-clockwise (Outward) about 1 turn and it was down to 1200 rpm, turned it another full turn outward and now the idle is at 650-700rpm.

Once everything is set, I retighten the nut on the screw to make sure that the screw will not move.

Well everything seems fine now.
