29342, Need help ASAP (head gasket question)
Posted by Matt_95tgs, Aug-03-02 02:00 PM
I am in the middle of putting my engine back together. I am about to put the head on the block and i noticed when reading the directions for installing the head gasket that I am supposed to spray this special adhesive spray on both sides of the head gasket first. I need to know how important this is to do ASAP because its time to put the head on. b.t.w. XtremeRS and I have some good pics that we'll post soon :thumbsup

I can only add this. After the falout with all of the HG issues already surrounding our cars, DSM was careful enough to do about 3 or 4 versions of the HG, and then finally going to a MLS gasket. Then after that, apparently, people were still installing the HG's wrong, and a TSM came out which specified exactly how the HG's were to be installed, including using the special adhesive spray.

If I went to all of the trouble of installing a HG, I certainly wouldn't skimp on this spray portion of it.

Definitely use the spray or some kind of gasket sealant. Do it right the first time, man.

Without a doubt, no questions asked, spray the gasket.

Mr. Gasket makes a copper spray sealer for head gaskets which is what you need to use, you should be able to get it at any autoparts store.
