29182, need specs on JDM 420a
Posted by zilla96i4, Aug-01-02 01:58 PM
I am a member of ASOG and hoped that I could get some help from this board. I recently spun a rod bearing in my engine and found a place that has a Japanese 420a. I would like to find horsepower and torque ratings.

Also if anyone knows the size of the piston, both height and diameter, would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance for any info you have.

Just out of curiosity, why would you buy a japanese 420a? That would mean it was made in Illinois, then shipped to Japan, and now probably shipped back to the states. I have also heard bad things about jdm motors, like they don't change their oil over there and stuff.

There is no such thing. The 2GNT cars in other countries have the 4G63 in them. There is a member on this board that has one.

I was wondering that myself. How can you have a japanese domestic market engine, for an american made motor?

Non-turbo eclipse overseas = 4g63 non-turbo 140HP POS

Find a 2.4L from a Stratus :)

I got a JDM 4G63 and it had 165psi in all 4 cylinders. That is awesome compression for a 6 bolt motor. Not a single crack in the turbine housing, and it runs Perfectly.

But like they said, there are no JDM 420a motors :)

I believe all 420a's were, in fact, manufactured and assembled in Mexico (take off your valve cover and you should see a "made in Mexico" inscription on the cylinder head). It's pretty common for different factories to have manufactured the pieces for the car, and have them all sent to another factory for final assembly, such as the case with DSM's final assembly in Normal, Illinois.

ALL 420As are built in Mexico including yours so dont start hating now. Oh as for JDM 420As I chalk that up to too much damn Super Street.
Oh and wether its a 13yr old Mexican kid making $5/day for the family or a 40yr old with a high school education making $30/hr for turning wrenches in a factory and still has the audacity to strike its still rediculous to me

I don't mean that in a racial way pancito, just a joke about the child labor rumors about Mexico. Bad joke. Sorry.

I noticed the made in Mexico casted in when I had my valve cover off. I didn't know if it was the whole motor tho. I seriously remember something about a mexican 2.4 liter 420A or something. What was it? DOHC stratus block or something maybe? Hell, I can't remember.

You are probably thinking about the 2.4L turbo that is stock on the mexican version of the Stratus R/T
