29133, I could use a little help Posted by WesEclipse, Aug-01-02 01:27 AM
Hey everyone. I have been checking out the site for a while now and finally took the time to register. I recently got a 98 rs 5spd and I have been tryin to get up to par with what parts i should buy for each mod (ie intake-aem or injen exhaust- greddy or hks and so on) I am not too worried about how much each part would cost i just would like to know what parts are the best in each category. I promise to participate a lot on the forum now that i can, and offer any help that i can as well. Also, one quick question. I have been chcking out prices online for parts and i found at speedandstyle.com the AEM short ram intake is only 129 bucks. thats like 100 bucks cheaper than anywhere else. And its for all cars, inluding like the civics and whatnot. Is getting the short ram going to be much differnt than the bigger one? Anyways, all input is appreciated. Thanks! Wes PS I will post a pic of my car soon....its a work in progress

with intake/exhaust etc. you basically pay for the brand name. Several memebers run universal muffler set ups and are quite happy with it. I chose to go with greddy because it ws what i wanted. What you want could be entirely differnt. Short rams will have provides less gans than a cold air intake but the amount of hp diffence is so little it really doens't make that much of a difference. I have the cai and love it. I was gonna get short ram but got hooked up so i went with the CAi.Read up on the boards, there is a wealth of knowlege in these pages. Just remember it all comes down to what you want to get out of the car, what you can afford, etc. Happy moddin, welcome to the boards.

Welcome to the forum. As far as comparisons of brands, you will probably get many opinions. It seems, people are getting different results using the same brands(tuning, age of car,who knows?). So as always, it comes down to what works best for the most people and what "YOU" like.I would suggest a CAI over a short ram. Also, an afx UDP(nice mod)makes a noticeable difference. Those are just two of the things to start with. "Good Luck and Good Modding"

ya, what they said...read what other peeps have, and maybe hit up the dsm product review site, i dun have the link anymore...or look into other peeps mods, and go from there.
form over function
one example greddy catback ~500 pacesetter catback ~190+universal muff~100=290 same thing in my opinion, but i got 210 chillen for my udp and plug wires ;-)
short ram vs cold air... colder air is more dense, the denser the air going into the engine, the more power...
good luck moddin, and search a lil when u think that your ? has prolly been answered b4

Ok, i think have decided on gettin the AEM short ram (cause of the price) afx udp, and getting either the apexi N1 exhaust, or just gettin the muffler and havin this shop bend me some 2.5 in pipe as a "custom cat back" How does this sound? Also, has anyone used the tokico brand springs? if so, are they decent? MACHV.com has those springs wit 4 tokico sport(non adjust.) shocks for 400...sounds like a great deal....any input? Wes
