29087, Where to position K&N Filter?(kinda long) Posted by bigbrent88, Jul-31-02 05:20 PM
Ok, I'm in a discussion/debate with a friend and need some ideas/thoughts. There are 3 possabilities, use the normal CAI area a little below the stock airbox, a short ram right after the battery, or attaching the filter directly to the TB feeding it with a dryer hose going into an airbox around it. My friend seems to think having the small airbox and hose around the Filter on the TB would be the same as having a CAI piping and you wouldnt see a diff(I brought up the fact that the airbox doesnt have to be airtight!). Also, would throttle responce be lessened by having the the filter right on the TB, since there no pipe for the air to collect in before hand? Also what gain(if any) would there be from it being right on the TB? TIA PS-On our stock intake, whats the box piece on the bottom between the head and battery under the entry of the valve cover breather? TIA again

I believe that bottom piece was a resonater or silencer or something like that. I just broke mine off, lol. Even if it didn't do anything performance wise, I feel better with it off.

No, not the resonator, this is on the actual piping after the airbox and after the flex section, its like 2in deep, 2 in wide and 3-4in long if I remember correctly!

I thought it was a place to collect oil since the breather line is right above that.

Yeah, thats what I was figureing, no aftermarket intakes have it so Im not to worried about it. But back to the main question???
