Well, I got my Apexi N1 universal muff. and took it to a muffler shop. This guy lifted my car with their machine and showed me that the so-called universal muffler doesn't fit by just welding it on. Is there any way I could get someone to make a custom pipe so the muffler will look good? Thanks!

To tell you the truth it is somewhat hard to make universal mufflers fit. Our piping gets way to bent up to try and put a muffler in. The best catbacks are the ones that go under the rear axle just because its straighter.

It's all a matter of size, the piping needs to right, the over all dimensions need to be small enough to fit in the spaces. No not all universal mufflers will weld right up, adapters might have to be used and piping legnths etc, modified, but you can get uuniversal mufflers to fit.

They DON'T just weld on. YOu have to get a short length of piping custom bent by the muffler shop. So it's not just a direct weld. They should probably charge around 50 bucks to make the piping, supports, and welding.

^^^^^^ yup he's right. that's what the muffler guy did to my magnaflow. the chop like a foot of my original piping where the stock muffler starts and bent the piping to hook up to the new muffler. that muffler guy who said n1 muffler can't be fitted probably doesn't know what he's doing and/or not experienced enuff.

The prob with universal round straight through mufflers is this. Stock oval mufflers have offset inlet and outlets. If you look at the stock muffler, the inlet is on the righmost side of the muffler, and the outlet is on the rightmost side as well. Since round mufflers are just that, and no offset inlets or outlets, it makes hooking up the inlet pipe to the muffler difficult, esp to make the muffler come straight out the back like stock. I had the Magnaflow SS round muffler, and they had to slightly angle the muffler to the outside some, as so not to have a sharp bend in the inlet pipe to the muffler.The inlet just comes too close to the axle bracing to make it come out straight. It can be done, just takes some good fitting and craftsmanship. If in doubt of the universal, get a bolt on rear section, made my some companies out there..direct fit, no weld

Thanks everyone. I think I'm probably going to get custom piping and have them weld the muffler on with it. The guy acted like he didn't know where I could get custom piping (this was at Meineke) but there has to be a place in town that will do it.

yeh you gotta get some work done to it, like reroute the piping a bit that's how I got my ol muffler to fit. If possible try to get a muffler that if offset to the side meaning the inlet comes into the can at an angle. But a N1 is a round canister type right? So you just weld that bitch on and point it crooked or whatever. It can go in at any angle, still gotta make some piping for it though.

Ha, I know exactly how you feel. I bought my OBX Bomb Muff to attach to my pacesetter piping and went to meineke to get it put on. Those mutha fucka's told me it was impossible. So I simply went across the street to Midas and they were like give me 20min and 60 bucks and its on. So to make a long story short take the muff and car to someone else who knows what they are doing

That's exactly what I did today, and a dude did it in about 30 minutes for about 70 bucks. I feel like going to Meineke and showing that dipshit it can be done. They must hire anyone with two legs and a head.
