28734, howeel stroker ?
Posted by 250lemans, Jul-28-02 05:32 PM
i'm at 120000 and i need a rebuild
i need a car to go to work everyday and a 14's on 1/4 when needed
people is talking about the 2.2 stroker but as i saw on howeel site they also offer a 2.0 w/upgraded internals for 600 less with that and 600 on nos and fuel pump where would i be sounds promising to me
as now i have header(4-2-1) high flow cat, and 2.5 custom catback, short intake, plug wires

you could go either way. They both come with forged internals the stroker gives you .2L more displacement than stock though so you would 2.2L. I don't think that would give you as much extra HP as NOS but I don't know for sure. Are you talking like 75-150 shot or what?

BUt then again that extra .2 with NOS would be even faster...:)

i'm talking a 50-75 nx kit
i know an extra .2L will add power but is it worth 600
i have a tight budget so i'm trying to get the most out of my money

haha.. funny you should ask.. skrilla has me convinced that more displacement is worth it... it does add more power to the car, but adds even more power to the mods that you have already done, and plan to do.... to me... i definitely think that more displacement is worth the extra money.

The extra .2 liters will increase power output out-of-the-box as well as for every mod and bolt-on to the engine. There's really no 'mod' that even comes close to what extra displacement gives to you...there's no replacement.

but guys you're not looking at what i'm saying
2.2 stroker 2400
2.0 upgraded internals + nos + fuel pump 2600
does .2 gives you as much as a shot of nos
i need to get the most hp out of my money i'm not rich
28741, It sounds like this is the most money you will ever spend...

...on your car? If so then just upgrade the 2L if not then go bigger like the 2.2

hey skrilla, which would be better as a stroker, getting the 2.4 off another car like cvedeclipse is going to do(i think that is the plan) or going with the howell stroker, or would they be the same. we are talking an extra .2 displacement but what about the other factors like the block being bored with a deckplate and better internals?
28743, A 20 overbored 2.4L...

...is 2.5L of displacement. There are also 3 companies that have internals for the 2.4L engine. I can't justify a few grand for only 9% more engine epsecially when I can do the 2.4L(which I am doing for CV) when I can get 25% more engine for roughly the same price. The benefit of the 2.2L stroker occurs when you want insane redlines at like 9.5K(which the head can't take anyway even with upgrades). Only with a redline that high could 9% more engine outdo 25% more engine with the same mods I think. Anyway I could prolly get 8K out of the 2.5L anyway. I'm guesing I have like 220HP but with 1K more revs I'd prolly have a good 20-30 more HP. There is just no way an NA 2.2 could compete with that even at 9.5K, and I don't even have all the boltons yet. I'm still tryig to imagine serious headwork, oversized valves, some real performance cams(not regrinds), TUNED cam gears and a quad body setup (which I'm working on). That alone has to be a good 50HP on a bad day

so does anyone have any actual numbers as far as gains for the howell stroker over stock? And about how much more (percentage wise) would you say a mod would give you with .2l more displacement??
28745, Percentage wise sure...
Posted by Skrilla, Jul-31-02 04:15 AM
...The stroker is supposed to be at least 2.157cc which is about 7% plus the overbore which rounds it up to 9% (I don't know if the overbore is included or if it doesn't need one or what)
