28539, Block torqueing specs Posted by BLACKWIDOWDSM, Jul-25-02 11:54 AM
Can someone give me the torque specs for all the bolts that go in the block...I really need the torque specs for the small bolts that hold the bedplate to the block. And also do i use any sealant to seal the bedplate off?

No dont use sealant on the bed plate. oil pump 17 ft. lbs,bed plate 18 lb. plus an extra 1/4 turn of the bolt, oil pan 9 lb. theres too much to list, just put down what you need to know and someone will help you out.

yea, honestly there are too many bolts to list all the torque figures. I recommend you just get a chilton's guide for our cars. it's pretty good. Plus there is a set pattern for torquing down the block which you MUST follow, otherwise you can warp some of the metal and improperly set the gaskets
soldier101, you use a torque wrench. it gives you a ft-lbs scale and tells you how much the bolt is torqued at. can get them at sears for 25-100$ depending on the model. honestly, you can't do much w/o them. that is, if you want to right :)

You don't use sealant on the bedplate?! OOPS, um I used anaerobic sealer on that and the oil pump. Am I wrong? It's like $14 for a tiny little sampler tube, and took me weeks to find. Doesn't chiltons specify Loctite 18716 for the bedplate? The dealer finally sold me some GM anaerobic they use for rebuilding their engines, but I never did find the right Loctite part.
ALL the torque specs are in chiltons (back pages and beginning of chapter 4 as I recall?) and on Dino's site: http://www.heavenz-not-0verflowing.com/files/2gnt_420a_overhaul.pdf
