I have a friend with Ram Air in his 99 Grand Prix GTP and he said that he noticed an extremely good gain from it. I was wondering if this is a good mod for our Eclipses, and how much gains are seen? I know it depends on what type of intake (short/cold) you have, but where should the vents be located?
If you have a hood that has given you noticable gains also say so. Thanks!

hoods do not make your car faster (except by a marginal amount from weight reduction) you could rig a ram-air system into a hood and it'd give you a little gain in the upper MPH, but it'd be the ram air system making the power, NOT THE HOOD. cause you could always rig a ram air setup and just put the opening in the bumper or something, don't need a custom hood.

Cut out a scoop on the front of your hood bump, and use a short ram intake. You might wanna shorten it up even more so you can get the filter right behind the scoop.
I've seen this done a few times but don't know if anyone has used it for ram air. I have a dryer hose from the simulated brake scoop to my short ram intake, bui I doubt it makes much difference, even at 120 mph on the Autobahn. It does help pull in colder air when I'm moving slow though.

Like the other guys said, the only change would be a lighter hood...
Also, depends which way the vents face...
If they are like the new Mustang hoods, than that could be good for Ram-air, and it could help cool the enginer (right guys?)...
but the cons are that, only some off these hoods are really tested in the real world, and if its not built and designed right, then the vented hoods can cause drag, therefore, making your car even slower...
Also, I heard of even OEM hoods w/scoops breaking off (I heard it from the guys with those old Muscle Cars)...
Of course, there really wouldn't be any gain on the Dyno, but I think they are really for looks...
And just wondering, what happens when it rains?...
The water would drip from the hood and onto motor... and cause cracks in the block? No-one really knows...
So...
If your car is for show purposes, I would say go for it...
If you would want to get one anyway, I would strongly look at who's selling them (or the company they represent), and ask people that bought it from them...
