One could naturally assume that the transmission is the same size / style...would there be any benefit in getting a neon tranny - ie taller first gear or anything like that??? Anyone tried this??? Thanks guys.

The shortblock is the same, but the Neon chassis is not. the Neon bellhousing is made for thier chassis and will not fit in out cars.
You can take the Neon guts and install them in a 2GNT case, you'll end up with taller gearing overall, but you'll loose some degree of accelleration in exchange for better top speed.

yeah, the ACR and the RT are geared the same as we are.. the SOHC versions have the tall gearing.
But the bellhousing still won't fit due to chassis differences.

SOHC Neons use a 3.55 Ring and Pinion with a tall fifth gear.
DOHC Neons use a 3.94 Ring and Pinion with a tall fifth gear
ACR's and R/T's use a 3.94 Ring and Pinion with a deep fifth gear, also 2001 PT Cruisers.
The Saturns use a version of the Neon trans with a 4.12 ring and pinion.

Or use a neon case with a eclipse bellhousing if you dont wanna swap em over to the eclipse case. I'd only use one from a SOHC neon if your making some good forced induction power. I nabbed my sohc neon tranny for 100 bucks with a cracked bellhousing... out of a 97 w/ low miles... couldnt find a eclipse tranny under 400.

Gary, don't early Sports also have the 3.94 with deep 5th gear. That is what my '95 Sport is like...
