2789, Camshaft Specs? Suggestions? Posted by Michael_97RS, Jun-05-01 08:24 AM
Okay, Raizin's post about his Crower modified camshaft got me thinking. If Crane can't make us a cam that is going to be specific for our car, why not get a set of cams and for $80 get a set made to the specs I want. So then the question is what specs do I want? Used cams plus the $80 to regrind will probably be cheaper anyway.
Here's the Crane specs Street Duration 242@006 Lift .354" idle to 6500rpm Drag Duration 250 @006 Lift .374" 2000-7200rpm High Compression Drag 258@006 Lift .394" 2500-7500rpm
I'm thinking that immitatin the Drag grind would be good.
Any suggestions or comments? Maybe different specs for intake and exaust? What do you guys think?

I talked to Brian yesterday from Crower about some blanks and he said he doesn't have any BUT. They are working on cams for OUR 420a. He said it will be about 2-4 months. As for the specs you can check Howell's site they give lift, etc...

Could they really make some custom cams if they were sent both cams?

I've been hanging around Ramiro at Crower for the past two days (BTW if you want his direct number it's 619 407-4626) trying to get him to make me some billet cams for turbo application. But anyway.. I was able to get him to pull out my ticket from when he reground my cams.. I could scan it and post it.. but I thought I'd just share the specs for now.
intake: duration 245 degrees lift .276 exhaust: duration 248 degrees lift .323 clearence is at .00
specs listed are based on a rockerarm ratio of 1.50 on both intake and exhaust
Info on degreeing the cam
intake: opens -11.0atdc closes 21.0abdc
exhaust: opens 32.0bbdc closes -16.0btdc
lobe separation 110 degrees
duration at .050"
intake 190 degrees exhaust 196 degrees
lobe lift
intake .184 exhaust .215
if using lobe center method of degreeing, cam should be installed on an intake centerline of: 106 degrees

Howell is where I got the Crane specs I posted. If Crower is working on new Billet cams for us, I can just wait, I don't have the money for them now, damn bills! I'd have to wait till I had the cash for the head work anyway, just doing it all at once. Of course, I had my hopes up for the Crane cams... so we'll see.
My only other question is how radical do you think I can get before I won't pass emissions? We have the lovely new dyno style emissions tests here in Chicago. By the time I install I'll have an S-AFC installed so that can help... What do you think?

Emissions restrictions here in Cali are so strict compared to most other states. Even with the mildest cams you will not pass smog. But I heard there was a "trick" to degreeing your cams so that you do.
