I think it is just the part that pulls the pressure plate against the clutch. I don't think the part is over $100 but the labor might be.

Dave,
a throwout bearing is a round bearing that is placed on the input shaft of the tranny, it slides up and down this shaft and presses against the clutch flex plate. this bearing is also connected to that little metal cup on the outside of your tranny that moves when you push your clutch pedal in and out. this cup is part of a large arm that actually pivots and presses on the throwout bearing which presses on the clutch and disengages it. it is how they interface a spinning clutch with a non moving actuator arm. So in short it is the bearing that allows a stationary arm to actuate a spinning clutch. it is placed between the clutch and the actuator arm.
i think this is going to confuse you more.

TO bearing is included in most if all clutch packs. Seperate, it should be no more than 30 bucks. I put one in backwards on my 240sx and it ruin it real quick, so I went to NAPA and got a replacement for like 20 bucks. If you MUST replace the bearing without a new clutch, do the labor yourself, and save 100-150 bucks. Once your used to pulling the tranny, its really no big deal anymore... hours worth of work to get it out with air tools.
