LAST EDITED ON 04-Jun-01 AT 08:09 PM (PST)

I have a 95 gs and i am having electrical problems. My car died yesterday before i went to work, then i got a jump. After work while i was sitting at a light my car stalled out.I started it up and noticed it would not stay at idle. It would just drop of if I did not give it gas. Before this even happened my car was having problems.I could take it up to about 5500rpm then my car would accellerate very slow.when it got to that rpm it would make a low indescribable noise. The best i can tell you is it sounds like a clogged vaccuum cleaner, there is no high pitch noise or metal sounding stuff just a one tone sound. some one said they think i need a new ignition. what do you guys think.Ecu? tps? please help. i love my car but this is so damn discouraging. oh all i have is an intake, 8.5 plug wires, ngk plugs

start simple first...check the voltage at the IAC and TPS

if either one goes bad, it could cause the car to die when slowing to idle or just idling.

I'm with Ryan chek the IAC and TPS first if they are fine. you could have a MAP sensor or somethign like that going bad. But run the codes and see it anything spits out.

do you have any codes? I have had the same problem and it seemed to be that my v-force controller which was hooked to the tps was lose. changed those connections and everything was fine. If you do have a check engine light on pull the codes and see what it is.

Its your MAP sensor most likely.......at 4500rpm or higher does your engine fuel cut (i.e. doesnt want to go at any higher rpms?)
If so, then try that out. Check its voltage also and it should never go above 4.79 i think...

$50bux from dealer and its fixed....

A HONDA?! wrong had more problems with my prelude than any other car i owned! when my car did that at 10K miles it was my ignitionspark plug wires that were shorting out. $50 bux and it was fixed. good luck!

Whats wrong with hondas? They are pretty reliable cars for the money they cost. I drive my hatch hard every single day and it has not failed me yet. My brother has an Eclipse and don't get me wrong his car is bad ass, but it hasn't been as reliable as my civic and we got our cars at the same time. Just leave the options open.

alright man do plugs and wires first if it's still there check what i think these guys are callin an IAC, i call it an idle speed controller it's like 90 dollars or more so ya may have to save. mine is don that too sounds like it's missin at idle and kinda puts like a old beetle then if you open the throttle even the slightest bit it levels out perfect

NOTHING WRONG WITH THEM, BUT THEY'RE NOT ECLIPSES!
I "USED TO" OWN ONLY HONDAS.. PARTS ARE WAY TO EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE. obviously you want to own an eclipse... :D

No I don't own an Eclipse. But I have driven my brothers and they seem like they have a lot of torque(for a 4cyl) but the problem I see is they weight alot and the shifter is kind of stiff. Other than that, if I didn't have a Honda I would surely have a DSM.

What exactly are the IAC and TPS and where are they located? Are they internal?

I'm not a mechanic or anything..but it could be your fuel filter. and if its a standard it could be that your little poles that are supposed to be synchronized for your clutch to shift right are miss aligned(forgive me I'm not sure what they are called) but this would also cause you car to think your not pushing the clutch in therefore it will shut your engine down. But the whole RPM thing I'm not sure. Hope my mechanicly challenged skills have helped...lol!!!
