for the test pipe, I know that I would have to take it off for emission test and my engine light will be on, but I just want to know if with a cat Conversion, will I pass the emissions test and will the engine check light be on or not and will cat conversion still give the same gain as a test pipe for a non turbo

As long as you get the hi-flow cat installed correctly, you will pass smog. However, it will not make the same HP as a test pipe. The test pipe has the advantage of not going through any air restrictions, unlike a catalytic converter. Also, the test pipe does not use the downstream 02 so that is what makes the check engine light pop up. If you do put on a test pipe, be aware that your car will be loud to the point of irritation at times. You will also lose a lot of low end power.
