27393, i need a new block-someonw please help Posted by esi420, Jul-13-02 10:20 AM
I need to buy a new block after this week. I was putting in the ARP bottom end studs and I dont know why it happened, torque was correct, but there are smalls cracks that go from the stud hole to where the bearing lays. Took it to the shop, they said it was screwed.
So, here I am, $8000 in parts in the garage with nothing to put them in.
My question is why did it happen. It looks like the studs were to big to fit down into the hole after the threads ended.
Could someone explain how they put their studs in so this doenst happen again???
Also, anyone got a spare block laying around they would part with???
Ill have some pics soon
Sorry about the long post. Thanks again guys

Were they installed upside down? I know that the threads are similar from the block side to the nut side I don't know how this would crack anything though... Couldn't you get a new bedplate? Seems that would be the only part to crack, right? WWhere are you located? I have a 2.0 sitting in my room if you really need it... Shipping would be a bitch, but I have crank, bedplate, and block, all apart, not yet hot dipped... Drop me an E-mail if ya want it... BennettWW9@cs.com -=B-=
PS: I am not trying to get rid of this motor. I have plans for a 2.0, but if you need it, I can put my plans on hold more conveniently then can you.
