whats a shift kit? and where can i get one? thanks!

they are basiclly just bushings you install in the shift plate. They are for MTs only..

There are shift kits for AT's. I believe they replace the valve body and some other parts. Level 10 sells something and Transgo has something (A604 tranny). I don't have either, so I can comment on it. I plan to get one eventually (the cheap one from Transgo).

what does it do????

There are two things I heard of..

1.) A Shifter...
This is just a plain old shifter, much like the AT gear shifter we have. There are ratchet styles and so on... Well, the good parts are that it is lighter than the stock shifter, plus you could get good launches if you do the Low Gear -> Upshift and then -> Upshift to drive or whatever... this would help you... (i think)...

2.) Shift Kit
There is something that makes your car shift normally at 6500 rpm or whatever you set it to... there was this place called "RPM Outlet" that explains more about.. you should goto their site and read up on it.. they have stuff about AT trannies too..

The transgo shift kit, firms up the shifts and makes them engage quicker, basically if it took 2 seconds to shift from 1 to 2 it makes it 1 second to shift..It is a good mod for the 20 bucks you spend for it (the install might be a little expensive 100 bucks or so, but its pretty easy to do yourself)

Pointless.. just get a TQ converter made to your spec from Level 10. I think I paid around $250.00 brand new made to my spec from level 10 in my older set up.

the shift kits I have seen my dad install in cars he is rebuilding trannies for consist of:
a new seperator plate for the valve body, drilling certain spots in the valve body with a supplied drill bit.
Drilling holes into the shift solenoids, etc.
These sometimes do crazy things on electronically controlled transmissions. They work pretty good with older, vaccum controlled transmissions, but not really nice with the new stuff in a lot of cases.
There was a truck with a built 350 in it. Bored/stroked, the works. We rebuild a new tranny and gave him high performance everything. The old tranny couldn't be rebuilt b/c the shit was broken in 2. That was a bitch to pull out too from what the guy that did it said.
Anyways, my dad test drove it to check it out. We road test everything to check for irregularities. This thing was quick. It spun off, and then hit 2nd with a nice spin. Had shaved tail lights and corvette tails in a molded in roll pan. The truck was for sale, but he wouldn't buy it. He needed a new car, but said he'd get in trouble with something like that. I was hoping he'd get it so I could have a fun thing to drive around some too.
Anyhow, shift kits are risky, they work good on some cars, but sometimes make the tranny shift real rough, can cause the hard parts to break more frequently, burn up clutches, bands, etc, and can even cause it to skip a gear. Just be prepared to pay for another valve body if it sucks.

mcgyvr, where do you get a transgo shift kit. I got on levelten.com but i didn't see any thing like that. do you have to pull the tranny to install it?

You should be able to just drop the pan and remove the valve body. Also, the chrysler trannies are a bitch sometimes. The valve bodies are really sensitive. The slightest error, and it will never work right.
