okay, about 3 months ago, my radiator hose blew after it was parked and after i had gone 110 on the freeway. I refilled with anti-freeze but only what i had, which i thought would suffice until i got to AUtozone to buy a new gallon. Well it didnt and it heated up pretty quickly. Everytime it heated, i would pull over, and that i did about 3 times. Then later i got my engine rebuilt due to a bad rod bearing.
My question is, since i got all new internals, why is it that when im on the freeway for prolonged periods at 75-85, the temperature gets to be about 75% betwen Hot and Cold? ANd when i go up hills, im up near Hot (like 95% there). It never goes to H, but 95% shit makes a man a bit uncomfortable.
But the thing is, it did the same thing before the rebuild as well. The system is full of fluid and a new radiator hose was replaced immediately. What could be the problem? TIA

If it goes up and down during travel, it might be your water pump. Also, check your thermostat.

there's DEFINITELY something wrong. even when I first go the car, it'd stay around midway on the temp guage when I was over a buck.

of course it burned oil like a motherf*cker, but hey, it was that or lose to my pledge brother's protege!

thermostate change that they are 25 bucks from autozone or where ever... and they usually have them in stock its pretty easy to change and you need to get a gasket... they break down like mine did

many have been having problems with bad radiator caps too, that also is a cheap swap

I had the EXACT same problem TWICE. First time it was the thermostat, I replaced that...and it was fine. Just recently it was low coolant/antifeeze level...so i just filled her up with some prestone and water(50-50) and filled up the reservoir...no problems since..:).

Like everyone mentioned, first check the radiator cap. If it goes bad, it will leak from under the cap. If that's good, then I'd check the thermostat. Chilton's or Hanes manuals will show you how to check it out. You might also want to do a good radiator flush/fill. It might be clogged internally. If all these things are good, then worse case scenario, you might have a bad water pump.

My temps NEVER go over half way on the temp gauge. This is even in 90+ degre weather and the A/C on, WITH a turbo :) Check out what was said in the above posts..

thanks guys, ill check both the radiator cap and the thermostat. I dont think it is my waterpump because i got a new one when i got the rebuild. And i dont think the system needs to be flushed because it was all pretty muched removed when the radiator hose blew. Its definately not low radiator fluid although the water to radiator ratio is not exactly 50:50 ( more coolant than water). I hope its a simple fix and ill let you guys know.
