26879, Problem on starting car..
Posted by j92, Jul-08-02 06:22 AM
I have been having problems starting my car recently. It seems that it only happens when it's hot, but lately it's be hot all the time so it's hard to tell. What happens is that sometimes my car turns over but doesn't start. Other times it starts and idles, but it is very shakey (my engine shakes). When I do finally get it started, it runs well. However, today it died on me when I was driving it--the only time it has done this.

It seems that it could be the starter. But if it was the starter it wouldn't die when it is running. I am curious as to whether it is my spark plugs. I installed new ones and there is a possibility that they aren't gapped correctly. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Sorry so long. TIA!

Just a guess but sounds like fuel problem. I'm guessing fuel pump but I'm just guessing. Any cel's??? I'd make sure that you are getting fuel pressure when you start the car. You said that you changed plugs and you gapped them correctly. Look over your wires but ignition problem are more intermitten when the car is running.

Yeah, mine's a 98 GS with about 60,000 miles on it. I recently installed spark plugs and CAI, but I don't think that would be the problem. It hasn't been disfunctioning lately, so hopefully it's just one of those flukes.

I got the hook up at the body shop I used to work at for a new ecu - I found out that mine went bad when I was playing around trying to find out what was wrong, then I leaned on it and the car shut off!! - first thing I thought was WTF so when I started the car again I tapped the ecm and everytime I tapped it the car would die - ever since I replaced it the car has ran fine
