alright so tonight as i was getting on the freeway i had a race against a new transam, haha i havent had that much fun while gettin wooped on in a long time. well yeah my power steering belt came off. when i got off at the next exit and checked, the belt was still comlete, it was just off of the two pulleys, safely sitting squashed up againts the radiator reservoir and some other stuff. i cuold tell where the belt was sorta damaged though from where it flew off the pulley. my friend who was in the car with me at the time said he works tommarow at kragen and can hook me up with a new belt. so do you think ill be able to just get one from kragen that easily tommarow, and how am i going to go about putting it back on. i understand how with alternators alot of the time you just losen the whole alternator to tighten up the belt but whats up with my power steering and all that down there. it was dark so i only had enough light to get the belt out of the engine bay and then just drove the thing home like a tank with no power steering. was that ok for my car? alright thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.

Another victum of the sh!tty power steering belt syndrome. But ya, you can get the belts at any of your local auto parts store. Its also a pretty easy job to slap on a new one as well. Hit up vegasdsmer's web site, I beleive he has a write up on the procedure.

uhm...nevermind, i guess ill be figuring this one out myself. i do not have ac so all the write up did was the confuse the hell out of me. i just want to know what the correct way to toss the new power steering belt on and how to tighten or loosen it if need be. its just two pulleys and one belt from what i saw last night in the dark, i dont think it should be too confusing.

hook up step 10 or 11, and go from there on my writeup.... the p/s a/c belt is the same even if you do or dont have cruise control ;-)

good luck

well i just got back from kragen but i forgot to write down the dayco part number that you had in your write up before i left. so my friend looked it up on the computer and it was sayin something about a belt like ac and power steering. as in one belt that works for both, but that wouldnt make sense for my car because i only have power steering, no ac. when he brought out the belt that was listed on the computer...it was like twice as big as the power steering belt that i need. and in your write up and also in here your sayin that its the same. im confused. are you saying that the belt for power steering, and the belt for the ac are identical belts but one for each? because if i dont have ac, i dont think that ill need the same size belt someone who does have ac if there is just one belt used to drive both of them. do you get what im sayin?

i totally understand u, and im sorry if i mislead u.... i guess i didnt understand...

what u should do is just get the belt for the p/s since u have no a/c... if they cant get u one like that, get sum string, and wrap it around both pulleys, and measure the string... then get a 5ribbed belt, that is that many inches in circumference...

good luck...

awsome man thanks, yah i think thats pretty much what my friend ended up doing for me at kragen but i got home and the thing was too wide. i brought my old belt in and homie still couldnt match it up. what a winner huh? haha. well i left a message on his voicemail earlier with the part number you had on your page but i guess that wont be any help cause it will be too long i suppose because its for the ps and ac. hmm. good times :-)
