2670, Well after putting on the new Cam angle sensor car is still dead... Posted by TrishasTalon, Jun-03-01 03:25 AM
Has anyone replaced there cam angle sensor lately.... They redesigned them so you have to splice wires and connect the new connect, it says to match the wires, but the wires are different colors... Hmmm... thats smart, so i called dealership and they didnt have any thing to say but "I dont know what to tell ya ma'am, just sorry its different colors and hope you figure it out..." Now isn't that just b.s. so now i am stuck with a cam angle sensor possibly put in the right way, maybe not with my luck but still pulling code 54.... Checking out the coil pack today, still not getting any spark... And if i find out i have to replace that, what's next gonna drive it for two weeks after getting it running as usual, then its gonna be dead again... I dont know but i am really getting tired of the sh... stuff...:( Trisha http://communities.msn.com/AStreetRacersDream

trisha.. try clearing the codes before you check for it again. You might be pulling the old code before you changed it.

Pull your negative battery terminal for about 15 minutes, it'll clear out the codes because it resets the ECU's memory.

good luck

2678, from your 1st post you said... Posted by Skrilla, Jun-03-01 05:04 PM
...you're not getting any spark. None at all. All I can think of are the basics. Plugs, wires? What did you perform when testing everything? Maybe try to install or check the TPS again to make sure(you proabably did). It might all come down to something simple you might have looked over.
Let me know

trisha.. your crank angle sensor is the one that sends the instructions to the ECU to fire. have you changed either that or the magnet at the end of the crank?

Pulled out the voltmeter and tested tps, spark plug wires, coil pack, the harness for the coil pack, crank angle sensor and that harness.. and all good especially since the tps and the crank angle sensor are good... One thing is weird though my knock sensor is not plugged in and when i plug it in i blow the main fuse... Trisha http://communities.msn.com/AStreetRacersDream

2681, Your car... Posted by Skrilla, Jun-04-01 01:57 AM
...is a '95-'96 right. Have you tried stronger fuses(more AMPS). What year is the engine you dropped into you car. Is it a '97+. There were some block upgrades and sensor changes(You prolly know this) but your old electrical system *might* need some att.
What is the main fuse rated at? Since nothing else has worked, so far, then try to plug in the knock sensor(pretty important) and use a stronger fuse (nothing dramatic). The wires running through your car can take it.

Try the higher rated fuse, but if you are blowing fuses I tend to think you have a wiring problem. Like it's grounding out somewhere in the loop with your knock sensor. If you have a manual the only thing I can think do start doing is testing the wires. Test continuity etc between sensor and ECU. If you don't have a manual, and you can get to a fax. I can copy the wiring pages out of my manual and fax them.

isn't there another ecu clearing test where you hold the + and - cables together for a bit w/ car off then turn it on so it can redo the checks and stuff or is that for some' else ??

Oh hell no you don't want to use a stronger fuse than recommended. You will run the risk of fire if there is excess voltage applied which is why fuses are there in the first place. I've recommended it before, but you might want to try to check for it again. Do you see the EGR tube running from under your intake pipe? I think it's a stupid place for the factory to run this but there is a series of wiring packed in a loom that runs across the top of it. This EGR tube gets extremely hot and will melt that loom and cause a short to the first wire exposed because it will ground it. When this happens there is excess voltage running through that line and will blow your main fuse. Why do I know this? Because I had the same thing happen to me and it took me three weeks to figure it out. I told you about this before.. but double check.

LAST EDITED ON 04-Jun-01 AT 09:28 AM (PST)LOL
I had a problem like this once. It ended up just being a wire melted through its cover somehow and was grounding against the block. I replaced the cover on the wire and presto, no more blown fuses and car started fine.

lol... I meant shop manual trish, not trans type. I saw your other post on "what is this" When I get a chance I'll take a look for you on that and see if there are any wiring diagrams that I think will help you.
