Well I have decided to install the bottom end kit before I go turbo...how difficult would you say this would be for me to install...how much should I be charged to have it installed? What sort of gains should I expect from it? Thanx

Depends. Have you torn down an engine before? I would say that if you can do a headgasket, then a short block would be pie. I would make sure that you triple check yourself and be in no hurry if you have never built an engine before. Gains are dependent upon what compression, how much boost, ect... and a shop would charge about 1000 bucks to do the work. It's really not something to be afraid to try, just be patient.

Here is the thing...this woould be the first time I have ever taken an engine apart, as far as I am concerned my engine could sit in my garage for over a month so patience isnt a problem, I have other means of trans. You use "head gasket" to compaire the difficulty...kinda scares me because I ahve spoken to many machanics and they all tell me that replacing a head gasket isnt an easy task, they explained that something to do with the timing would throw me off. If I took it VERY VERY slow would I have much to worry about?? I have use of and engine stand so I would amagine that that would help the proccess....the grand I would like to save for the "Turbo" fund...lol

wel ive takin apart and put back together 2 engines that were out of the cars. and it honestly was not all that hard. the only nerv racking thing is putting the pistons in gotta hold the ring clamp very tight because if your rings hit the block you best get some new ones. so take it slowly and dont do ANYTHING half ass. but i wouldnt do it unless there was an experianced person with you because there are many things to check for when rebuilding. jes a lot of measuring. but it is lots of fun! good luck and have fun

Doing a headgasket isn't very hard, you just have to pay attention to what you're doing. Like Mitsuman said, you can't half-ass anything and if you break one ring getting on the piston or getting it into the block, you get to buy a whole new set. Also stupid things like which rings go where (3 kinds) and side to side rod to crankshaft journals clearances and not putting nicks into a freshly turned and, knifedged, balanced crank that you just put some dough into. It's all stupid shit that you have to watch out for. Oh yeah, having someone who has done it before is REALLY helpful.

I see...in any case I have full intentions to do this in my garage. I wish to gain the experience and know how from stippin my 420 to the bone. Will this kit allow me to boost with the bog boys you think? Oh and one last thing...do any of you guys know a reference site where I can gain info on the steps of this project? I just got a digital cam so I will be able to get pics on the web if I have questions etc. Thanx

Read your chiltons. A regular service manual would be awesome. Some specs might be a tad different but they usually give you a range. Be prepared to buy some tools, like a GOOD torque wrench. You have already found a great place to get info- HERE!
