26183, How to make my car fast?
Posted by 9D9 MITSU RS, Jun-27-02 02:47 PM
OK. I eventually wanna have a turbo kit and a stroker kit on the car. My question tho: when I finally go thru with it when I stop doing other things and have $$$, what compression should I go with? I won't be going turbo right away more than likely, but I wouldn't want it to not run right or have a risk of blowing up. Would low, mid, or high compression be the best? On the howell stroker short block by the way. Don't remember the #'s. Anyhow. Help me out. I wanna pull the most power possible with all motor, but still have the option of putting turbo on top of that and keeping engine reliability.

I think the hard part about the compressions is that to get maximum gains N/A, you need to increase the compression. However, with a turbo you want lower compression because the turbo is already creating pressure. I think when it comes to compression it's either one or the other... N/A (high comp.) or turbo (lower comp.). I guess you could get a piston compression somewhere in the middle but then you would only have a mediocre car and you wouldn't be able to "sqeeze" all the power otta the car possible.

Am I right on this one?

As for the stroking and say botom end kit/top end kit, those would benefit you either way and would get you good power. Definitly do those.

Yes and no. High compression with a turbo is capable of making just as much if not more power than lower compression.

The biggest choice in compression and turbo is the "room for error" factor.

If you are not going to go turbo for a while and you want to rebuild before I say go for 10.5:1 compression....Its a very boostable compression ratio and its also a good all-motor compression. Just my opinion.

Thanks. Actaully I meant that the more you increase the compression WITHa turbo as well, the more you risk........ since FOR EXAMPLE, if you went with something like 12.5:1 compression, you could blow shit up.

alright, so it'd be better to buy a low compression crate stroker short block, and install it when you bought a turbo kit?

I guess just plan out everything carefully. I would rather wait and get everything together (I mean when you have everything planned out and settled on). That way you don't do really expensive internal work and then later on wish you got something else because you want to boost high.

Trust peopel when they say that you'll always wnat more boost. If I were you i'd get the compression pretty low and then boost the hell outta the car.

I am waiting for my car to look good first. I will be done with that in the next year hopefully. I hope to get a great job when I move to the beach next year so I can save up for the stroker/turbo. The all motor beast with turbo project. Oxymoron, but it has a nice ring to it. It's gonna be kinda pricey, but if anything, I can finance the turbo kit at NER if they allow it by then, and just pay cash for the stroker short block. I wanna build the top end too, so I might as well figure on saving another $2k. I want it to have plenty of power on tap. ride around at very low boost, and just use boost on the big boys. Ahhh, dreams. I hope I can pull all this off tho. I might be the only guy driving an eclipse in 2035, but it WILL BE FAST! :P someday.

...if you do the swap

200 WHP? And what? the 2.4L swap? What all does the 2.4 require? Also, are internals expensive for the 2.4???
