26087, wheres the timing belt?
Posted by nappyjim, Jun-26-02 11:55 PM
ok, i just got my car back from the shop for an oil leak. IM going down the highway and then my car backfires and then dies. WTF is that. I pull the side, pop my hood, and the belt that is enclosed in the plastic casing directly to the left of the engine was off the metal teeth. is this my timing belt? if so, what else could have gone wrong with my engine if the belt came off while i was doing 70+ mph? also, how long does this take to fix?

Ouch, thats the timing belt, you may have bent valves, your gonna have to get that checked out, I wouldnt drive it. well if it was me and I dont always do the right thing I would slap that belt back on (make sure everything is at top dead center) and see if she still runs, and holds compression but be very careful at the slightest noise shut it down, This is what I would do. but Im crazy
