25984, Exhaust Manifold heatshield... Posted by eclipsers88, Jun-25-02 07:46 AM
Well, my heatshield is all cracked and I am debating whether I should by a new one from Satan for $42 or just ditch the thing. I am concerned about ditchin it though cause I don't want my hoses to melt. What do you guys think?
Thanks Jon

Ask some of the turbo guys if you can have theirs. I would let you have mine but I haven't got my turbo yet. :thumbsup

well, I could see a definite hazing in the hood paint over the engine area on my car, and I've been running without a heatshield for a couple years now. Can't say for sure if its causal, but it would stand to reason.
Just be very careful when taking the bolts out. Warm up the engine a bit first, and use lots of penetrant. You don't want to snap a bolt head off, trust me.

Mine was a real pain in the butt to get off, but we got it off after about an hour. One of the bolts rounded, so out came the vise grips, so do be careful. There is a place I go to get my parts. If you would like I could see if they have an extra. He would almost give it away probely, and I could send it to you, and I trust you would repay me. It may come out to be only $20-$25 bucks with shipping via UPS ground. The guy is a friend and he does not charge me crap for the little things. Just a thought, or if you can you may want to get a set of higher end headers and replace the hole thing, but I don't know how much it may affect your power band, my lose a little on the low end, but don't get the Bro-Speed cyramic headers, I having a noise problem with mine. I have hear that the Greedy is nice, but the run about $450.00. Look to see what some of the others are running and ask around, most of the older guys now there stuff, so get different opions.
