is there any way to modify the stock muffler to make it sound good i know you can gut the cat but that doesn't really add any sound i want sound without the $200 bucks for an aftermarket one

snatch up a gst muff, and weld it on your existing pipes...

Don't even bother with it.... I picked up a stock GS-T muffler for $60 shipped off of DSMtrader.com last summer. It bolted right on and gave the car a little bit of rumble. It gave me a decent performance upgrade and the neighbors still like me. :)

Edit: If you pick can get a GS-T muffler in complete stock form, there is no need for cutting or welding. It will be a direct bolt on. The GSX muffler is different though. For a GSX muffler, you would have to cut and weld it on.

I paid like $75 for my flowmaster 40 series muffler and 30 to have it welded on. I'm thinking about adding a glasspack because it can get quite loud at freeway speeds.

Yah, the GS-T muffler bolts right up, and sounds even better than a GS-T cause 1) You don't have a turbo, so exhaust is louder and 2) You don't have the extra resonator on your catback. Ask around at rice shops every week and you should be able to find one for $50

leave cat. alone, it can cause problems if gutted with your back pressure. I have Greedy Evo cat back, and sounds great, but lost a little lowend and gained a little high end. Depends on what you want.

gotta love the GsT muffler! on my old eclipse i had a tanabe racing Medallion muffler. i hated the damn thing plus it killed my low end.
it was to loud and it kept giving me headaches.

is it beteter getting the whole exhaust out of a gs-t? or maybe getting some other pipes? or is it just good enough to have just the muffler?

Just getting the muffler will be just fine, don't worry about the cat back pipe, it's the same diameter for the turbo and non turbo anyway.

The GS-T exhaust piping is the same size as ours. All you need is the "axel back" part of a GS-T exhaust. It will be a muffler with about a 1 foot section of piping sticking out the end. On the end is a flange where you can just bolt it up to you exhaust piping, after you remove your stock muffler.
