25703, HELP!!! Need correct main bearings
Posted by esi420, Jun-21-02 06:58 AM
Alright, I need to know where to get the correct bearings for my 95 420a. I have the howell bottom end kit, but the bearings are different for the bedplate side of the mains. The notch in the bearing is on the wrong side. Now, in the box with the bearings, there was a little note. It says they can be used on a 95 engine, but they have to have a new notch put in them.

Where can I get the correct bearings for the engine so i dont have to modify them(I have a lot of money in the motor, so I dont want to do something half ass especially on the mains)

Sorry about the long post guys.

Thanks

Buy two sets and use both top halves.

why does howell not correct that problem, like include the correct mains etc.. ?? what is wrong with them, can it be done without using both top halves??

Because it only affects early 95 model 420A engines.

Also, it is not a Howell problem, it is a Clevite and Federal Mogul problem. Manufacturer, not distributer.

Ther eis a company that makes correct bearings, but i can't remember the name. Try a search.

Alright, Ill get another set. I swear I remember someone giving out 2 part#s for federal mogul bearings. 1 for early 95s and one for late engines

Thanks Dino

Dino, is there any way for me to tell if I would need 2 sets for my 95? Is there a cutoff with the serial number? Or is this just another one of those modular/non-modular clutch issues where I just have to open it up and see?

You just have to open it up and see, as far as i know.

When it comes to that point, just buy two sets. if you don't need the second, return it and get your money back, or buy stock 95 bearings....

CAPS says manufacture date of 01/94 to 06/95 .. part number M04729000 for the thrust bearing (1), and part number M04728999 for the main bearings (4). Aftermarket bearings are cheaper (although probably better quality) but with the stockers you don't have to wory about it..

Thanks Dino. I'd rather get the Clevites. :7

I totally forgot that CAPS is on the backup CD. :rolleyes I gotta check it out.

here you go I posted this a couple months back and it got sucked into the archives so I had to hunt it down again. But this should answer your question, you can get it at satan but it's cheaper with this aftermarket stuff.
