25443, Header install question..... Posted by OZ_GS, Jun-19-02 03:20 AM
I bought a Greddy header used and am going to install it this weekend. My question is that I did not get any bolts with it to bolt the header to the downpipe....so is there anything special I need to get for this due to the tempurature changes? Do I need lock washers or anything and lastly what should these be torqued to?
Thanks in advance for your replies.....

I would think you would use the stock bolts that came off the stock downpipe.... but I myself have not installed a header so I couldn't say for sure.

Well thats what I figured untill i took a look at the stock exhaust manifold and cannot see a connection between the manifold and the down pipe. I then just assumed it was all one piece. Maybe I did't look hard enough. There are a bunch of heat shields that might be covering the connection. I will check again.

come to think of it, doesn't the greddy some with downpipe and all??? You should just be hooking up the header directly to the catalytic converter. Unless you didn't get all of the header... then you might have to take it to a muffler shop and have them cut your down pipe and weld on a flange to connect the two. Does your header look like the one above??

the header is a two part for sure. mine came with the dp and the runner sections and a gasket to put between them. i didnt install it though so i dont know torque specs. also you can see the flange in the pic above. -Josh

Right but the flange isn't in the stock location right?? So if the rest of the downpipe is missing then you will have to have some custom work done.

Actually it's not that I didn't get the downpipe. Its just seperate from the header. I just don't have the bolts to bolt them together.
So my questions are relating to the bolts that connect the header to the downpipe.
Yes my header does look like the one in the picture ....(not nearly so pretty though)

So am I just blind? Is there a flanged connection between the stock exhaust manifold and the stock downpipe or is it all one piece? If it is just one piece thats where my question comes in.....Since I won't have stock bolts (if its one piece) what bolt setup should I use as far as washers, strength, material ect.?
