hey this is my first post i've been just reading for a while and decided to break down and spend the 5min to make a sn anyway i'm thinking of buying a strait pipe(test pipe) off ebay and was wondering if this would make my car sound any better with the stock muffler i'm planning on gettin a universal soon but in the mean time i was wondering what this would sound like also are the $30 short ram intakes on ebay any good

I would recommend you get the ram air intake off of ebay anyday. They flow nearly if not the same as all the name brands do. Not worth the extra cash for .5 hp. I paid 50 for mine and it works great. As for the test pipe with stock muffler, when my buddy put his on all it did was made it a little raspy, no louder, no softer. Nice mod for the cash though (if you get a better muffler). Have you thought of just gutting your cat? Pretty much the same except it's free. Hope this helps ya.

If you're NA there really is no point in getting a testpipe. IMO NTs sound much better with a cat and there's no advantage of getting a testpipe. Spend your money on a cat-back instead if you don't have one already.

I love my test pipe. It sounds raspy, but you can replace the stock presilencer with a big'ol cherrybomb straight through to solve that. It's also a little stinky at first, but it gets better with age. I definately noticed a good increase in power. The decrease in backpressure causes a bit of a power loss on the lower end(<3000rpm), but there is a good improvement from there on up. I just installed my UDP today, and it feels like I have my lower end back. I'm not sure what kind of low-end loss you'd see since you already have the UDP.

A few questions
What is a cherry bomb?
If i got a cherry bomb thing the test pipe and got a nice chrome tip from one of my buddies would i have a good exhaust? And with the test pipe and the cherry bomb it wont sound like a hondu and be all like a weed eater

also what would get me more hp the ebay intake or the test pipe i just dont want the weedeater sound if i get the test pipe

We have a 4 cylinder car. You will somewhat sound like your mowin a lawn when ur racing, but as you mod your engine more it will sound much better. When I first got my exhaust, thing sounded like a honda, now after some more modifications, specifically the throttle body, it sounds much better. There is a trade-off with modding, do you want comfort, or do you want speed. I decided to go speed, and so Im happy. But what you have to realize, again, is that we are a 4 cylinder, get rid of all the resonators in your exhaust it will help, atleast it did for me.. Just dont whine if you dont have the perfect exhaust with a test pipe and a chrome tip, because its not. By all means get the intake first, and try to get cold air, short ram doesnt do that much, lots of warm air isnt half as good as lots of cold air, specially on hot days you will hate the short ram. And I would recommend AEM, its not only .5 horse, its about 3 mroe than the leading competetion, which is probably 4 more than the ebay ones, and considering they are a 6-7 MAX gain, thats alot of difference. with our cars, you want every possible ounce of horse you can gain, because theres only so much you can do, so every bit coutns. If you don't want to sound like a weedeater. Don't just get the test pipe - you'll need more than that. If you want power, get the test pipe.

A cherrybomb is just a straight through muffler. They're usually red, and if you look through them there are no baffles blocking the way. The baffles are around the side. There is a presilencer behind the rear O2 sensor on our exhaust. It is a straight through muffler(like a cherry bomb), but it's pretty short(around a foot). If you replace it with a longer straight through, then it will deaden more of the high pitch sound so the exhaust will sound deeper.

I love the power - but I don't like the sound. It sounds like I'm burning high octane rice wine...so I got a cherrybomb. Hopefully I'll be able to install it by next week. If I still don't like the sound of that - I still haven't touched the stock muffler. If I replace the muffler and don't like the sound of that....you get the idea.

dude, I've had both an AEM cai and ebay short ram, to be honest, yes there's a power difference, no, it's not significant, you'll do good for a first mod on that, as far as the testpipe, wait til you go turbo to get a test pipe, you wont regret it, also instead of getting a "weld on universal muffler" go for a full catback, cheapest one is the Pacesetter, next up (which you can get from Journeyski or ebay) is the OBX, I just put the OBX on my car and it's deep as hell, gave a very nice sound and a nice power increase..just my .02
