25293, Help guys, I messed up

Okay, here's the story...my alternator fan belt ripped up the other day, killing my car for a couple days, I get down there and see the A/C,P/S belt is all fucked up too. I went down to the parts store and picked up a couple more belts and spent 5 hours replacing both of them for the first time (yes, it took me forever, but I could do it in 20 minutus now). So I get the engine fired up, working great! WAIT! I go driving around, taking it pretty easy on the car, WHIZZZZ, A/C belt breaks AGAIN! So I'm all driving around with no P/S, SUCKS, but you can feel a very nice power difference, anyway, so I figured I'd go down to the parts store tomorrow and get another one, I think I know what I did, but today I'm driving to work and WHAPPP, something happens to the alternator belt too. I look at it and it has 1/2 turned the belt around, with ribs out. Guys, what the hell am I doing wrong??? Not enough tension on the belts? too much? Please help.

are the pullies lined up?? thats the only thing i would think that could cause the belt to flop over like u said..

usually, new belts will stretch out slightly, so after replacin, u will need to tighten them up a lil(after a cuple miles of drivin)...

they could have loosend up, and your heavy foot threw em off the pullies...?

good luck meng

i used to go through ps/ac belts like they were going out of style, but then i looked at the tensioner and it was bent just a little and the belt was hanging just a little over on the edge. Whenever i got on it, the belt would shred at the hangover point and destroy the belt, a couple times it sliced through the alt blt too. So i would check the tensioner and the how the belt lays on it, just a suggestion. I fixed it with a couple washers. But thats just me.
