I heard this from a buddy of mine and he say it is a really serious issue. I don't know what is has to do with but I'm figuirng the crankshaft nad he also told me it is only prone to 2g eclipses. Does anyone know anything about this and maybe how to prevent it . Thanks

it does not affect the 420a. You can stop worrying now.

Step 1. Go to www.google.com
Step 2 Type in Crankwalk and READ FOR HOURS. . .
Step 3 Go to RRE's site and read some more. . .
Step 4 Laugh at all the 4g63 owners you see cause they have the chance of getting crankwalk. . . ;-)

we do however have problems with spun bearings... so always keep an eye on the oil level, expecially if you have the stock head gasket on it.

Yes our downfall is spun bearings and can be JUST AS DAMAGING to the engine. We seem to get a little bit of warning with noises but it can still throw a rod VERY EASILY. Mine spun both times due to low oil from a leak and oil consumption from bad rings. I was losing 1 qt in 1000 miles and had no idea since I was keeping up on the oil changes but not checking the levels weekly. I check every few days now.

Having an Oil temp gauge would probably be a good idea to go along with the Oil pressure gauge we always seem to recommend. I think the bearings can be damaged if the car overheats very badly too.

Another thing, if your oil light comes on it may already be too late. That means the sensor is seeing 5 psi of oil pressure :o :o :o :o :o
This is the perfect situation for them to spin. You are most likely powering in to a curve and the engine is at a high RPM. The oil is all to one side and the pump is pretty much completely dry of oil so the bearings quickly dry out and thats pretty much it!

Dough! :o I already had my oil light come on once B4 a while back.

I use synthetic 10W 30 and have 4k on this oil and had to add 1 quart of oil already. Should I start worrying?

I wouldn't worry until you start to hear a slight ticking. That's the noise it usually makes. Speaking of which, how hard is it to take out the block?!?!? I just purchased a new crank and I need to take out the old block to send it to howell. If it takes more than a day then I'll pay someone to do it. Anyone in the VA area want to make some money:)
