2522, b attery indicator light......
Posted by jdeyo, May-29-01 09:33 AM
I made an attempt to install my AFX pulley this weekend and in the process of removing the accessory belts, the tensioner pulley bolt broke. It broke due the the bracket that it screws into being improperly threaded from the factory. It cost me $125 for a new tensioner pulley. I have no idea how to get the alternator belt off. There is no possible way to get a wrench to the bolts unless I take out some of the other stuff in that area of the engine bay. I drive a 96 GS and if anybody has any tips on how to get to the alternator bolts let me know.

So, I did not get my pulley installed and now after replacing the pulley tensioner I get a nice red battery or charging system light on my dash. Both belts are installed and turning. It seems that the alternator is turning but I cannot tell from up top. The belts are not squeaking or anything, and I did not have a chance to touch my alternator. Now, when I first start up the car and drive for about a minute there is no battery light. After that minute or so, the light comes on. The car seems ok, but I do not trust it. I can stop my car (turn it off) and then turn it right on again, and the light is gone, only to come back after about a minute of driving.

Any ideas or tips before I goto Satan tomorrow morning?

If I recall right, you will need short socket #15mm or 14mm not sure, but you will use that to loose the bottom bolt of the Alt (you will need to raise up the car and get to it from underneath). then you will need to loosen the other bolt on the top of the Alt using the right size rachet, then use rachet sp? #13 to loosen the tensioner bolt out enough to get the belt off.

about the charging system light, if it's always on, then your Alt is not connected right to the battery. and if it comes and goes, then I would think your Alt belt is kindda loose.

Yeah you need to get to the alternator from the bottom, loosen the two bracket bolts, top and bottom and the crank on the tensioner with a small ratchet.

And refer to Adel for charging system for an answer, same as mine.

2526, damn.... always check your fuses.....

Well, I went out into the garage to trouble shoot my problem and I figured out that the alternator clutch ??? fuse was blown. It is a 120 amp bus fuse located in the fuse box under the hood. I bought two new ones and went out last night for two hours and cruised around Naples to make sure my battery light would not come on. It didnt. Simple fix. I also put some new NGK plugs in gapped at 0.044 and had a chance to test my skills against a new 3g eclipse 4 cyl. There was an orange tricked out del sol in front of me and next to him was a semi tricked out 3g eclipse 2.4L 4 cyl. When the light went green I almost rammed into the back of the del sol, so I made a lane change to behind the 3g eclipse. I then almost ran into the back of him, so I made another lane change into the farthest right hand lane (which was previously occupied by a minivan) and passed the 3g eclipse on his right doing about triple digit speeds. Del Sols and 4cyl 3g eclipses are not very fast. We probably scared the hell out the guy in the minivan cause before we took off everybodys stereo was booming real loud. Always remember to turn it off before you race.

Well I am heading home. I will have pics of my ride soon, as the film still needs to be developed. I drive a black 96 GS that looks stock on the outside, except for a pair of DTM tips on my exhuast. Plus my iceman intake does not make me sound stock either. I will post pics in my signiture soon.

Thanks for the replies..... It was a little fuse that caused a big problem.

2GNT Niclipse, since you are in Rockledge, are you going to the car show at the Orlando fair grounds this weekend? If so, then I might see you there.
