24913, Pulling Transmission Soon..... Posted by CluckeRMC, Jun-09-02 11:01 AM
Ok, so I'm gonna be dropping the tranny outta my car and I have NEVER done it on a front wheel drive car. I've had the tranny out of a 64 impala and a datsun 510, but a 64 impala/Datsun 510 is a bit different then a 95 eclipse.. So, with that said, I've heard I need to drop the entire block down correct? Or am I gonna have to pull the whole block still connected to the tranny? Will that even work on a front wheel drive car? Also, Can someone just quickly (not in depth) go over the steps for me, what needs to be disconnected in which order, so on (no detail on how to disconnect) just what. And also any problems you ran into that you could let me know about just so I know ahead! :) TIA

disconnect intake piping, battery, battery stand, other misc shit thats on top, unbolt the starter, take the front suspension out, axles out, unbolt the tranny from the engine, disconnect the reverse switch harness, and the speedo harness, unbolt the motor mounts front and back, remove the crossmember, drop the tranny out... making sure you support the engine with a jack on the oilpan... thats about it, not too hard, after you get the hang of it, you'll be able to drop it out in 2 hrs. The first time is always a trip though :-) Goodluck.
