I've been researching the AEM EMS unit 30-1310 (dsm 4g63 unit) for use in a future project of mine.

AEM has started a great forum to discuss their units in which they even have their engineers answer questions in there. You can check it out at http://www.aempower.com/bbs/login.php

They posted the Pin-out for the "plug and play" or PnP unit for the 4g63 which supposively you can just hook up to a dsm and it will run with a baseline.

I was curious why, with some minor wire splicing, cant you adapt this unit to the 420a. Of course, the base map for the unit may be off, but AEM already has posted the how-to on converting this unit from reading a MAF sensor to a MAP sensor (1/2/3 bar sensors are available).

This unit has all the sensors that a 420 seems to need (including voltage regulator). Of course, one may need to fine tune the sensor readout within the EMS which is not an issue. The crank position sensor, the cam position sensor, knock sensor, o2 sensors, intake temp sensor, tps, idle control, voltage regulator, radiator fan relay, coolant temp, etc..

Does anyone see a major issue in adapting the 30-1310 unit to work with a 420a???? I dont...

I will soon sit down with my service manual and map each stock 420a harness pins to the EMS pins. Maybe there will be a good match.
