Okay, tonight I was at Steak n' Shake (A place locally where everyone eats) and this guy in the parking lot had a 99 Eclipse RS. He claimed that he had a supercharger in the mail for it, and that he'd be installing it with his brother next week. So I immediately say, "Dude, theres no way. There isn't a company that makes a supercharger for the 420a" - He claimed his brother used to have one, and that he will be getting one soon. In my head Im thinking how much bullshit this guy is talking, but I humor him and I'm like, "Yeah, that'd be cool. Once you get it done let me see it.."

Besides the fact that noone makes a supercharger for the 420a, what other points could I use to tell him how wrong he is?

Damn I miss Steak n' Shake.... they dont have em here in Colorado. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt before I make judgements, but that guys sounds like hes full o' shit. If his brother indeed had a supercharger then he would have been pretty well known, as well as the company that made it.

someone just offered me a bolt on supercharger for like $1100.. i figured i would of heard about it on here if there was one so i was pretty skeptical.. i'll try to get some more info about whatever the hell it is and post it..

you know guys.. they do make generic superchargers (centrifugal specifically).. which could be built onto a 420a, and the level of dificulty only depends on the engine bay configuration.. for a while I was going to MAKE a custom supercharger kit for my car.. estimated price of about 2500 bucks. not too shabby.

can you get me any info on these superchargers? I have a mechanicly inept friend who may have fun with a lil bucknutty side project ;)

Vortech is my personal pic for a centrifugal supercharger, but the other two each have their own advantages. I have done quite a bit of research on them so if you want to know some stuff you can either surf their sites or ask me.
NOTE: none of these companies make a direct kit for the 420a eclipse (although one might.. i'd have to look again) but what i was talking about is buying one of their supercharger units and custom building the rest of the kit.. such as piping and mounting brackets.

EDIT: a thing to note.. is that there isn't much room by the belts for a supercharger unit, so that poses some problems, much like the kits for the honda's.. but there are ways around it.

Those honda, drive shaft bar, or whatever their call, things look funny. But, i guess whatever works :D

well.....the supercharger can mount wherever as long as tubing is going to all the right places, right? Between me n him we can figure something out. I sense a winter project :thumbsup

Not just the plumbing has to line up.... i had a paxton blower (Supercharger) on my s10 blazer the main thing is lining up the belt, it took a whole weekend just the fabricate the mount for the blower unit to work with the belt system and i had to 86 the a/c

thing is though.. centrifugal superchargers are VERY dependant on the layout of the engine bay.. so one for the PT isn't going to work for the eclipse.

and like the guy said above.. the belt lining up is the key.. piping is easy to route compared to finding a good spot to mount the supercharger and have it perfectly line up with the accessory belt/s. if your off by just a little bit you'll shred and throw belts (like the guys with the UDP's know ;) )

The PT intake goes the other way. So I dont think the Whipple supercharger will work unless your can flip it some way.

its a really simple design, just get your self the nova 1000 head and a little custom brackets and driverod and your all set,well plus fuel upgrade, I bet that could easily be accomplished for under 2000 bucks.

yep thats like the only supercharged 420A eclipse known to exist. Well i don't think it exists anymore I heard it was stolen and gutted or something. It was suppose to be a show car or something. Hehe that would also be the picture used to promote the deeznutz inc supercharger!
