24657, camshafts and valves Posted by Green_Eclipse_RS, Jun-05-02 04:03 PM
Can someone please tell me what the stock size is as well as intake/exhaust duration on the stock 420A? Does anyone know what the biggest or best camshafts are that we can run? Also what are the best valves sizes? What else should I do? I don't want to break into the bottom end and I am not turbo but plan to be soon and I also to plan to run nitrous soon. Any help would be helpful.I really hate to post again but I really need my car fixed and I want to do it right. Someone please help me.

Gude does head work. Check it out - http://www.gude.com/
As far as cams go, I love my bullfrogs. Howell sells CraneCams.

...don't recommend Gude but I know Crower will do regrinds for you. I'd rather go that route. also check howell for cams. I don't know whether or not you will have to manually properly degree them though. I don't know if the problem was fixed, I think it was.

Hey Skrilla, do you remember any specs about the Drag grind cams that Mutany Raceworx was selling a long time ago? I know Eric R. had them but he doesn't remember any specs on them.

Skrilla, what part of Gude don't you recommend. I have some of thier cams. Is it the cams you don't like OR the head work OR both?
I tend to agree with you about thier cams. I think I would recommend some new billits(like the CraneCams) over the Gude regrinds, but I got a great price on the bullfrogs so I went with em. They perform as advertised - good idle and pulls hard 3500 up. I've knocked off more than a 1/2 second from my 1/4 mile with just minor mods(cams, intake and test pipe).
I don't have any experience with thier head work...but Vinnie(the guy who sold me the cams) seemed to think the head work was pretty good.

...The mutiny ones were custom grinding by this guy from Mutiny but weren't as good as the Crower regrinds, how do I know because I had a set of both. My frined run arounds around with the Mutiny and the Crowers I have, but aren't installed.
As far as gude goes they have created a bad experience on mor than one occation with members but not all, so if you were provided with something better than shit that's excellent. Whe I go to get serious headwork done I would recommend Benson's in Santa Ana. They are unmatched and have built I don't know how many countless engines. Lisa Kubo went there they were featured in Turbo for their long stroke short stroke series etc... There is a shop in San Diego that did my 3angle and assembled my head for me for nly 200 bucks. Gude I've found to be like Jet ECU's. They have created more promise for other engines than the 420a.

Thanks Skrilla. Yeah, Gude looks pretty busy with the zx3 right now.

I think Gude's work depends on the mood fo the machinist on that day. I have a gude head in my room, that was modified to work better. So a gude base with more work... I feel okay with. I'll let you know once I have enough money to put it on fully built.
As far as cams, Crower should be done soon. They were waiting for the masters to begin production. I'll have more info when I call him next (probably next week). So that adds another set of grinds to your options.
Una salus victus.
