Alright I just installed my AEM CAI on my '99 GS and when I first cranked my car up, it smelled like it was running hella rich. Then, I was passing a friend on a test drive and he said my car stunk, before I put on the intake I had no bad smell or anything. Now, when I'm runnning the AC and ease thru 35-50 mph range it is chugging or jerking and when it is idling it will go from 1K-800 rpm, not stay at the constant 800 like before. I'm not getting any CEL and my car runs great, besides the rough idle and the smell. Is this normal, do I need to reset my ECU, bad plugs and wires, or can it be something worse?

I would try disconnecting your battery first and see what happens.

I agree. It sounds like you need to reset your computer, IMO.

A CAI will not make your car act weird. Its just another filter.

The CAI shouldn't adversely affect your car like that. Did you have any kind of intake before, or was it stock? Like the others mentioned, try resetting the ecu by unhooking the batter for a few minutes. Maybe the ecu is trying to adjust to the "extra" air, or it just be a coincidence that your car is giving off that foul smell. Either that or maybe your cat-converter is going bad.

Alright, I just reset my ECU (unhooked the battery for 2 min.) and this is what happened: I tried to start to my car after resetting the ECU and it idled for a sec and then cut off, I turned the key again and it cranked up fine and seemed to have a constant idle (I let it sit for about 5 min). I cut the car off, turned the key again it fired up fine again. I'm not sure if the cut-on cut-off is normal but it seems to be fine now. Maybe it's fixed, or just a bad cat and a coincedence. BTW, I had the stock airbox b-4 the AEM, the only other mods I have is Apex'i N1 exhaust.

the car will always die the first time after resetting the ecu. totally normal.
