I have the AEM Cold Air Intake and I was wondering if its hard to put on the bypass valve? I heard that you have to cut the piping, is this true? Thanks

Yeah, u have to cut it. I used some towels, a vice and a saw. Wasn't hard. AFTER U CUT< BLOW IT OUT WITH AN AIR HOSE! I cut mine about a the front corner of the engine. It works good so far. It's been on for about 6 months.

Did you lose any power? I heard you do with the bypass valve. I would really need to put mine on since hurricane season is coming but I haven't yet decided to. How about to put it back on after cutting the pipe? does it just attach itself to the valve or you have to somehow screw it so it'll hold...

You'll see when you get it.....easy as cake. You have to cut a small section out of the pipe for the valve(using the template), then it just slides on and clamps....that's it.

I didn't eel any loss. I did as follow. I had the short POS APC intake. Drove.
installed AEM without bypass, drove and felt a nice increase even over the increase given by the short intake. NICE!
I then went ahead and cut for the bypass. Drove and it felt the same, if not actually better. I think maybe it does something to airflow to make it better? My car has been fine with it and I didn't feel any losses.

That's funny you should say that you think it may feel better because I thought the same thing after I put the valve on. I was driving around with the CAI and no valve for a year. I installed it and I personally think the car accelerates better off the line now.

Where exactly did you put it? I called AEM to find out and they told me to put it after both the throttle body and the MAS, but not in between the two. The guy was a dick and i wanted to kick his teeth in and he wasnt much help either. So, i thought that maybe you guys would help out a fellow DSM'er. Thanks in advance.

Here is a link to a pic of my car with the valve installed. Keep in mind I have an old style AEM CAI that was two pieces to start with. If you have the new one piece mount it below the bend in front of the motor. Brandon could help you with that placement, that is where he put his.

Yeah, looked at your pic. Looks pretty damn close to where I out mine.

GS Sport Is your valve where the 2 pieces join? Did you have to take a piece out of the pipe regardless for fit purposes? or just stuck it in between the 2 sections..i got the older style too but I heard you couldn't put it in between the 2 pieces cos it would rub against the battery..either way my valve is still on the box.
Also anyone know how do I go about getting the clip from AEM, my bypass was one of the first ones out i think, its been sitting there for a while in the box...anyone know the phone number for them?

Yes you still have to remove a section of pipe. I cut the lower pipe. If you cut the upper pipe it will be too short for the valve to fit because it will hit the engine. If you use a little WD-40 on the pipe the valve slids right on. Hope this helps you.

Well first off, we dont have mass airflow sensors so he was just assuming you did. We (NER) checked with an AEM rep at the ID Drag Wars and he said to put it as close to the downward bend as possible. Then there was this recall thing. You guys know about that, right? They recalled the bypass valves and are supposed to be sending these little retainer clips. Now, we talked to the AEM guy on the phone and asked him the best place to put the valve. HE says closer to the throttle body. So...blah. I'd stick it close to the bend. I dunno. Hope this helps.

Which bend.. the bend when it starts going down or before the bend with the filter at the end? I was thinking in the middle of those 2 since thats where I have the most room. Also I didn't see it mentioned here.. don't you have to also shorten it like an inch or so since adding the Bypass is going to add to the length?

I feel old here. I have the two piece AEM intake. I have had it for two years and I have never even come close to sucking any water in it. And I live in Florida. When it rains here it rains HARD. The by pass valve isnt necessary unless you plan on making your car into a submarine or if you drive it into a river or something. It is coming off in less than two weeks though. Turbo is going on. I am going to try and make a CAI for the turbo with the AEM intake.

Dave, I've thought about that looking at Jason's before he installed the intercooler. I don't know how long or what the second piece of the AEM is but I think the Injen Cold Air Extension on mine looked like it could work. So if you are going to the shoot out and your AEM doesn't work, we can pull off my extension and see if works for you.
