I have read before on these boards that a great number of people feel that total seal rings are not ideal and cause the engine to burn oil, by not allowing any blow-by. My question is, Does having total seal rings cause your engine to use/burn more oil than normal? By normal, i mean 1-2 quarts between oil changes. Or is my engine not normal?

well since i've rebuilt with then i've noticed that i go thru about 1-2qts. in the first 1000 miles, and then after that i think i've gone thru about a 1/2 a qt since then.

Yeah I go through a bunch of oil when driven hard. Dont really care cause its been 50K miles and a few yrs. As long as it holds together it can burn as much as it likes.

NO, they Totally Never Seal IMO...thats why I got JE rings..

I called up Gary about this and asked him what he thought. He assured me that the total seal rings are good and they use them in every single one of their cars. I dont think Gary would sell us a bad product. He knows his stuff when it comes to the 420a and I trust him. I am using the total seal rings on my rebuild.

Mine uses more oil than it used to, but even after abusing it at the track, not one drop of oil out of the catch can. Make sure you check the oil level more often, or you'll end up with a seized rod bearing like me.... x(

yea mine seames to eat more oil that bafore the rebuild, but no matter how much i get on it, not a drop of oil in the catch can :D

Moral of the story of our engine is you can never change the oil too frequently, and you can never check the oil level too frequently, I check my oil level all the fuggin time cause you never know what is gonna happen... My buddy had a miata motor in a escort... dont ask... but he hit a rock and it gashed his oil pan open, oil light came on and the engine seized before he could pull over..bummer.

haha same here I check my oil pretty often. When I run that sucka hard I can blow like 1/4 quart into the catchcan. Mines still stock engine and it's dying too :(
