Sorry for the large pics, cant resize them until tomorrow. And at this size and picture detail and quality, it looks quite scary! lol
I was astonished when i pulled every single piston off the block.
Every single piston ring (except the oil rings) were either completely shattered or were damaged.
My cyl #2 piston is damaged, one of the ringlands cracked off on a spot.

The cyl walls seem to be "OK" after a good hone job, but they dont look pretty. Is this a detonation spot on the pic below? Some folks indicate that these spots are caused by pre-ignition.
 e
Today off goes the block and bedplate and crank and pistons/rods for checking/cleaning/etc.
Now i need to find a replacement piston and possibly more replacement pistons after the shop tests them and let me know whats good or bad. Im also already .060" overbore, so if they need to bore it out, i'm just gonna give them the spare block i have sitting at my shop. As FYI, i run crower rods with je pistons (10:1 compression). I'm also pissed as shit as the previous shop who rebuilt my block cheated me out of bottom end ARP studs >=(
Pics are up at http://www.asog.net/kiku/XTCEngine

Looks like the ring gap was not set properly. What was the end gap on the rings?

I trully do not know. The long block was rebuilt, r&r'ed, etc by a sneaky and unfamiliar shop in newark delaware. I paid a boatload of money for these morons, and they couldnt have done a worst job.
This time i took my time finding a GOOD machine shop to do the work. I'm taking it over to Accurate Machining (accuratepower.com) to hopefully salvage the block and rebuilt the short block =/
Bad news is that at least one piston is bad, maybe more. Its going to be a pain to buy a matching je piston. I may just buy a whole new set. In addition, i have a 3.5" bore - nothing standard or easy to get out there in the market. If this block is shot, i have a spare block with stock bore.. _________________ Vinnie Lima kiku@asog.net AIM: Kiku888 1997 Chrysler Sebring "Silver XTC" I4 420a w/ HRC Stage 2.45 w/ FMIC 14.7@97 mph@6psi Proud member of the ASOG BoOsT JuNkIe Crew

The should have provided you a spec sheet. Had I known I would have recommended Rhodes Performance in Somerset, PA they are the only Machine shop in the world that has the torque hone plate for the 420A block to do a proper boring job. I know I has the plate built, bought it and gave it to them to use on our blocks. If you need the best 420A/Neon machine shop in the world here is their number 1 (814) 443-2418

Good to see you're getting Silfer XTC back in action Vinnie.
Don't know if this helps, but I read somewhere in the turbo forum that detonation will damage one side of the cylander. I think it was the intake side.
Isn't 10:1 a little dangerous for high boost. How much were you running when it blew? I'm no turbo guru or anything, but I've also heard that one of the tricks to running high boost with less worry of detonation is to lower the compression ratio.
I don't know. Maybe it was just a shitty batch of rings.

Ouch :'(
Sorry I feel you pain!
Thats some serious damage. How did you know you were having a problem? How long did you drive it like that?
This scared me so much I don't know if I still want to do my own rebuild.
I still think me and Mike can handle it :thumbsup

You could get your block sleaved. that way you wouldn't have to tear into a new block

Hey Gary,
Thanks for the tips. I'm going to get this block analyzed, and see if this block will be ok with a hone job, if not, i'm not going to get it bored even further.
Armond, how much did your resleeve job cost? I'm planing to change my 10:1 pistons to 9:1 if i end up have to replace all 4 pistons.
