Ok, so I did about what any woman would do that doesn't know a thing about cars, except I did it just because I was too busy/lazy. I didn't get an oil change for about 9k! Between then, I added a tital of about 2 1/2 quarts, but still problem occured. Near the time I was going to get the oil changed and up till now, whenever I accelerate I hear this rattle or knocking sound in my engine....doesn't soundg good, but does anyone know what it may be? Sounds expensive ;(

O shit, sounds like rod knock to me. How did the oil look when you removed it, was it really thick and sludged up? What does the dip stick look like when you pull it out, all sludged up?

I dunno, but I know it was black though. Even though I had added a quart like a week earlier, he said it was still dry. I thick the noise is getting louder though ;(

Yup, turns out it was the fucking rod knocking, so now apparently I'm stuck with either rebuilding the bottom end or getting a salvaged motor.....fucking great. The guy said at least $1500 for the used motor if it had low miles (my car's a '96), excluding labor. He also said the rebuild would be more expensive than replacing the motor. Any suggestions? Remember, I'm not made of money ;(

Rebuilding will cost you the bottom end parts ($1099) plus labor. (I have seen it done for less than $500)

If you can find a good deal on a used engine or block you'll save some money but still have the shitty stock parts.

Is that price for aftermarket parts or stock? Where did you get that price?
