I've already cracked 1 Thermostat Housing (on the engine block side) & I can't find any info on these sensors anywhere in our shop manual... can some1 pleaz tell me how many lbs. of pressure 2 put these in w/? Do they not screw in2 the housing all the way? I got them in less than 1/2 way B4 probs.

The new coolant temp sensor cracked my orginial housing in 1/2 & my new fan switch broke in 1/2 while installing in the new housing... then tapped it 2 get the broken 1/2 out & cracked the new housing again. I'm a bit irritated & wished the @#%^%@#$ was made out of metal.

P.S.
@ 70k miles, antifreeze has leaked & successfully corroded away both of these orginial sensors and my rad fan does not turn on when sitting idle @ a light ( & overheats = turn on a/c ). Also, I have not been running @ the Xact temp as I should ( I also had a '97 Eclipse )... Instead, it runs a bit cold & I know my fuel mix is a little rich. My milage (on '99)is ~38mpg while my old '97 got ~43mpg. I'm wanting 2 get this up. I'm pretty sure the overheating has caused my o2 sensors some grief as well (Xpensive). That's it :(

Those sensors are NPT. Thats National Pipe Thread. It is a tapered thread. You put teflon on the sensor threads and screw them in until they are snug. If you keep turning, something will give. You know that first hand now. They don't have to be torqued down hard.

Yes, I do know 1st hand (unfortunately ;) I went 2 satan earlier 2day & they said the same thing. They broke @ 15lbs, so I'll just make sure they don't get near that.

That's interesting.My mom's 1.5l Civic doesn't even get that.Your complaining about 38mpg????????

What can I say? My '97 really spoiled me. Died w/ 120k miles on it (accident)... never had a single prob. Original Timing belt & everything. On my '99, I've had oil in cyl #4, my coolant temp sensor & fan switch flake out, & a couple other smaller things. Nothing I couldn't do myself. I Will say 1 thing, I love my UDP on the 99 (Didn't have it on the '97)).

If U don't have an UDP, get 1!!!
Those crap Brando belts w/ the AFX haven't made a squeak in the month or so I've had it on, don't worry about the squeaking.

P.S.
I've been known 2 frequently take Xtremely long trips (w/out stopping) as it helps my mpg. My record is 35hrs in 2 days.
