My next mod is to have my TB bored. Does anybody in the philly/allentown area have a place they recommend for the job? ... and approx. what they paid? :+

I just bored my tb out myself today. I used a dremel tool and shaved as much metal away as possible while still allowing the butterfly valve to shut all the way. I took the little hump inside completely out. The car now feels a little more torquier (sp), I find myself not having to hit the throttle as much as before to get the same acceleration. Plus the car will keep pulling hard until about 6500 rpm

I own a dremel and could probably port it out myself as well, but I've read on this site warnings about doing it yourself b/c if it is not done well you'll get a sluggish response. It was recommended to have it bored at a machine shop. What's your opinion on that?

I would recommend getting it done by a professional, as some have had problems with the throttle plate seating and causing a high idle if bored out improperly. At most, it will cost $100.00 (for Howell to do it, I think ARD is cheaper) to have it done by a professional shop and a week or two of downtime. And, if you do it yourself or have a backyard mechanic do it and don’t bore it correctly you may experience more downtime, as you will have to find another throttle body.

On the Jeep TB idea - Any specific year range of Jeep I need to yank from? I have a junk yard right down the street. I think I could easily do that. I am assuming they bolt right on.(?)

No they don't bolt right on. You need to do some modifications. Here is a write up:

Mbenz - I checked out the link you sent me. At the top of the page it talks about looking at the info on the NEON TB this guy did as well. Do you know anything about that or where I can find that page as well?

There is a guy in Gastonia NC that will bore them out for $35. He has been doing kart racing engines and bores out all the tilison carbs that the local kart guys run on their open modifieds. I know he bored my old one out for the guy I sold it to and it works as good as the one I paid over $200 for. Look around for a local machine shop and do some calling around.

Thanks for all the great info guys. I think I am going to check out the Jeep TB idea at my junk yard and see where that goes - I don't totally feel comfortable with that looking over the provided link (thanks for that link by the way). I like having the one on the car now bored better. Looks like I'll just have do some calling or send it to ARD/Howell. If anybody has any opinions on the Jeep TB vs. a bored stock I'd be interested.

Thanks - Chris

I don't know the exact link, but I know that it is here somewhere. Do a search, you should find it. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Good luck
